I have a slightly different take on these "models:"
To me, and I admit to having a less-than-generous heart, I think a
model by relation is either 1.) stupid by all common measure and/or 2.) the grossest attention-seeking whore.
1.) Allow me to explain, models, even the
high earners, don't make very much money compared to those equally visible and at the top of their field in other professions. We can't. Take 30% agency fees, other agency expenses, and taxes, our net income is a weak shadow of the original booking. Granted, we get lots of free stuff and that conceals our true salary. Our career life span is one of the shortest. We are at the mercy of our agents and clients. We have few rights--I wasn't allowed to rest on my job today (8 hours) but every intern and assistant's assistant had 3 donuts and a pack of cigarettes to himself. Not a big deal. Not complaining, but when I think what a person with considerable privilege could do with their lives that is simply impossible for those without gratuitous financial comforts, I'm revolted. How many gifted people would be fine artists/writers/musicians but have to be waiters or teachers instead? You could start a business, go to a pricey university and spend a decade becoming a marine biologist and NOT have to eat ramen noodles or ruin your future with debt. You could dedicate your life to religion or other humanitarian adventures. When girls like Cara D try to
exact pity and relatable points for their personal branding for doing poorly in prep school [the kind of school little dirt clods like me dreamed of, for any day I was going to be taken to Hogwarts/Star Fleet Academy/Jedi Academy--far away from my current obscurities] and going into modeling just because they can't really do anything else despite their many, many leg-ups. This is the more charitable conclusion, being stupid, since intelligence, though plastic, can only be helped so much.
2.) These disgusting spoiled whores are models because the only thing they value is their immediate popularity. There is a special circle for them in Dante's inferno for they are human garbage.
I've mentioned in other threads how wonderful an opportunity like modelling can be for rural or otherwise estranged girls like me. It can bring you into the world and send you on to wonderful places and wonderful [but different] careers. The
model by relation shits all over this tradition.
I know I'm harsh but I don't really . . . care?
