Has anyone else seen this woman on youtube who did three 40 day water fasts back to back (and posted videos throughout)? This is from years ago, and she did it for religious reasons, I think, but I nonetheless found this really inspiring!

She looks like a completely different person, and she managed to keep it off.

Here's the entire channel: aaroncohen

Wow, doesn't sound very healthy..
I looked at her appearance through the videos and she looks sick and emaciated.
Sorry but I would never praise this.

I do agree that she looks kind of sick at the end of the fasts, but I thought she looked fine in the last video six months later... like after everything has stabilized.

I'm not saying that anyone should go to as extreme measures as this woman did, and indeed, she did it for religious and not cosmetic reasons, I just found her willpower really incredible.

Oh I understand that.
Her willpower is undoubtedly amazing, and I'm sure it is easier when you are that religious and are convinced your doing it for god, but wow, I hope no one here will ever go to those measures. Its just so dangerous and scary.

I agree. I mean, short term fasts are okay - your body has reserves and all that. But not for 120 days!!! The stupidity of some people... just ughhh. What 'god' would want you to destroy your body?

She came off of 120 days of fasting and ate steak and chicken for the first two days?

It's definitely not the best way to go about coming off of a fast, but she wasn't fasting for weight loss--it was for religious purposes. I watched most of the videos, and I'm impressed with her level of dedication as well as the level of spirituality she reached. If she was doing this purely for weight loss purposes, then I would be more against it, but that wasn't her aim. Plus she took a week off between fasts so it wasn't as though it was 120 days straight.

I get that :p I just feel like after going that long without food eating a steak or chicken or something that heavy would feel awful. I would want to start small with like a couple berries or something. Sounds like stomach aches and diarrhea to me.

Oh yeah I get that. She did manage to keep off most of her weight though. She didn't say how low she got down to, because the last time she mentioned her weight was at the start of the 3rd fast and that was 120 (from 199lbs) and she must have gotten down to 100 or under by the end. She said in the after videos that she stabilised at 120 so I guess that she didn't come off the fast in the way we would, she kept off the excess weight.

Fasting for 120 days - that's about 1/3 of a year! :wtf:
I don't have time to look at the link (I actually want sleep tonight ;)) but I hope she had some feeding time in between the sessions. On the other hand she's an adult (hopefully), she knew the risks, her choice, blah blah blah....

IMO 40 day fasts are generally not a good idea.
Also, religious reasons don't turn something into a good idea.
Point: please don't try this girls!

BTW I think I've seen her on a news site (or something similar?) somewhere as an example of an anorexic...

While she did have quite the weight loss, her change in mental attitude is pretty obvious. At the beginning, she was very into doing it for religious reasons, but by the end, she just kept rambling about how hungry she was and eventually tying it back to religious reasons. (It reminded me of when some models talk forever about what they eat, b/c they are obsessed and disordered with their food) I could kind of see her thinking/mental process dwindle down. She looked starved.

The saddest part is, 6 months later her weight went right back to where it was before basically..... I know she wasn't doing it for weight loss purposes, but HONESTLY?!

She went from 199 pounds to 100 and stabilized at 120. She didn't gain it back?

Ok you caught me I didn't really look at the videos in detail  But all I saw was her face got seriously chub again, so I was thinking...ugh I wouldn't starve for so long and then gain any weight back! I would be terrified to!!!

It was hard watching the 38th day of the 3rd fast. She looked too consumed. I'm glad she didn't get stuck on that and now she seems ""healthy"". Still, the "God wanted me to do it" and "Today I'm feeling closer to God" disturbs me too much. Good she didn't die, I would never put my body through that.

wow, I was not expecting to see her that emaciated towards the end. I believe her last update was a couple years back, I wonder how she is now...

what is her religion? I think I will do it for the weight loss but maybe for 11 days only. I never thought water fast will make someone lose this much !

She's an Orthodox Jew, I think.
