Oh la la, that eyeliner is a disaster on Kaia's already extremely narrowly set eyes. Karl might not have kicked her from the show but he certainly made sure she looks awful.

I get your point in general, but a model’s specific and individual “look” is a big part of what gets her jobs as well. That’s why there’s a distinction between HF and commercial, why certain designers book certain girls over and over again, etc. Adesuwa and Sija Kang probably wouldn’t make good ASOS girls, just like no one wants to see a Jasmine Sanders Saint Laurent campaign. Not sure why the casting directors in this particular case thought that this was a good look for Kaia.

Sorry @IcedAmericano, but I’m curious: you’re a model, what do you find disagreeable about this? At the very least shouldn’t models look good in red lipstick and dramatic eyes? This makeup wasn’t supposed to be ugly - I’ve always thought it was the model’s job to bring the designer’s vision to fruition?

I definitely don’t disagree that red lipstick and dramatic eyes usually looks good on most models, but I do disagree with the idea that models should look good in anything. For a couple of reasons:

There are so many different types of models who have different fortes. For example- if you put Marjan Jonkman in a swimsuit ad, I’m not sure that would look good- nor would anyone expect it to.

On a styling level, I’ve seen so many horrific “creative” and “artistic” editorials that the model definitely did not look good in. Or the makeovers at Alexander Wang’s shows... the insane haircuts may have worked for Peyton Knight and Katie Moore, but I don’t think anyone would expect Grace Elizabeth, for example, to look good in a bowl cut.

I’m rambling here, but you get the idea.

Everyone already knows I’m no Kaia stan, and I have zero desire to rehash my little tantrum from a few months ago  but she’s definitely being cast like a supermodel would be, no?

I somewhat agree, but I meant models should look “good” as in looking how they’re supposed to.
    classic look —> look beautiful
    edgy —> look captivating
Also always healthy / sans obvious flaws (i.e. eye bags the MUA will have to cover, fat thighs that will cause trouble for the wardrobe assistants, or looking “dead inside”.)

Maybe it’s not entirely her fault... she’s being cast in absolutely everything and the majority of it feels so wrong for her. Par exemple, I found this to be a particularly confronting, borderline disturbing image.

    Same with this:

My reaction was not dissimilar to when I watched Dogtooth upon its first release - i.e. “I’m so confused, I’m not ready for this, the world is not ready” (best friend growing up had film producer parents = we were left alone to watch a LOT of weird art films. Pardon the hyperbole but few were as bad as this Vogue cover).

Sidenote, but a supermodel like Vlada would look incredible in any of the scenarios you mentioned:

Ok, I sound like an obsessed bitch. I promise I waste no time thinking about her except when I go shopping and see her face in every store. It just gets annoying.

I mean, sure, different models have different scopes, some more stylistically specialised than others, but black liner and a red lip is not fucking type cast makeup, it's the basicest config there is and it's a problem if a model can't look good even in that.

Hey hey hey, don’t come for Vlada pls. We all know she can pull off a feminine look. Let me know when ANYONE skinny or who we like at all gets a SI cover.

I know, I wasn't "coming for her" or saying she's less of a model because she couldn't do SI, I was just illustrating my point about different models having different looks and different types of jobs they get booked for. I literally can't find any pics of Vlada doing traditional swimwear work (apart from one more recent and unimpressive editorial.) Also, SI isn't "feminine", it's sexy (according to some lol)

Well ask AB if Vlada is sexy then? (Edit: it’s ok, I don’t want to start a fight, I agree about the swimwear pics but it’s not hard to think of another model like Natasha or Magda who could pull off a swimwear ad. Also, sorry I was so mean to Kaia, for some reason I just dislike her as a model more than the average person. I’ll stop)

I absolutely agree that she looks better here than she did for Chanel, but I can’t get over - and I know this is old news by now - how sickeningly unremarkable her face is.

The hair looks fine— it’s her face that is just alarmingly bloated.
