Celebrities Looking Skinny

With all of the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard stuff going on, it’s prompted me to rewatch Pirates of the Caribbean and has therefore reignited my obsession with Keira Knightley. I recognize that these are old photos and she obviously doesn’t look the same now, however I think she looks particularly lovely in these:

She’s just gorgeous, so classy too. I love her!
Piggybacking off of this- I remember this photo of her being one of my first “real” thinspo photos- when I made a board on Pinterest for it

I came across an interview of Chinese actress Yang Mi where she was asked if she'd "ever been fat before" and she answered, "yes, back when I was around 98 lbs". Then she clarified that she usually weighs around 90 lbs. She's 5'6, so I got a good chuckle out of it. Here are some photos from her press conferences:

She had a child in 2014 so I do think her figure is pretty remarkable!

While she isn't a huge household name, Thandie Newton has always been one of my favorite actresses. I've been watching the new Westworld season on HBO (which I highly recommend!) and was reminded of how well she maintains her figure. For being 49 years old, she looks amazing! HBO won't let me screenshot stills from episodes but here are some of my favorite scenes from the series overall:

Do male celebs belong here as well?

Because I think Travis Barker is a pretty rare case of a famous person that maintained slim physique throughout their career.
He recently became a bit stocky-fit, but still looks more presentable than most american male celebs.

Since becoming Kardashian, he gained a bit:

I like that he's a clean eating vegan, exercises 6 times a week and overall promotes a healthy lifestyle to the general public.

What I find interesting that his lifestyle was met with some kind of admiration, that a "rockstar" is so health conscious.

But if a slim woman said that she considers blueberries a snack and loves eating vegetables, she'd be ruined on social media for promoting orthorexia and diet culture. Just like it happened with Gwyneth recently. And btw Gwyneth is definitely much heavier than Travis.

I find the whole “almond mom” thing on social media to be laughable because of this. Most of the women who are labelled as such (although not overweight necessarily) aren’t slim either, and a lot tend to have secret binge habits/are generally clueless about calories tbh.

Krysten Ritter had such potential. Shame she had a child and it fattened her up so much.

I dislike how the online trend is to vilify and mock “almond moms” as if they weren’t also victims of “diet culture” and exhibiting disordered eating patterns. Like if your whole narrative is that you’ve suffered from an eating disorder and deserve pity from strangers on social media, how are you going to make fun of your mother who- according to you- was going through the same thing, except 15+ years ago, when eating disorders were constantly misrepresented and misunderstood in the media and treatment was harder to access?

Right! Any time I see older women with eating disorders, especially elderly women, it just makes me sad more than anything to imagine having that mindset for literally your whole lifetime. A lot of people complain about the lack of support for eating disorders currently (rightfully so), but it’s nothing compared to how challenging it would’ve been to find support even 2 decades ago. Newer generations also have the privilege of being able to access information online, and many people end up being able to recover without extra medical intervention, that would’ve been impossible pre-internet.

Those tattoos are a travesty.

I will say, I'm definitely more accepting of looking a little "heavier" if it's due to muscle, for men and women. Some women pull off the super thin look with minimal muscle definition and look great, but a lot of women (not the ladies here) have a tendency to think just being thin means they can avoid all forms of exercise and end up looking just as soft and doughy as if they were average weight.

Not the exclusive cause, but it doesn't help that clean eating is categorized as a "fad diet" on Wikipedia, or that it's more "fun" to call women uppity bitches for taking health and body maintenance seriously than some random gymbro. It definitely seems that the ubiquity of junk food and rising obesity rates, combined with America being an individualist culture as opposed to a collectivist one (not incidentally, collectivist regions -- much of East Asia and Eastern Europe included -- have much thinner young populations on average), have forced a "new normal" wide enough to encompass them. Plus junk food's more common in lower class areas, and people may want to appear sympathetic to that.

For thread tax: I'm a fan of how Lexie Liu plays with Mandopop in her songs, as well as her edgier look -- the glare, the leanness! She featured along with some American/Korean pop singers on KDA's "More", and I remember being surprised by how left-field her solo projects are in comparison.

I wanted to share the recent weight loss of Ariana Grande.
She always had that petite figure but in the early times everybody noticed her face and arms getting slimmer and I’m here for that!
She was bullied online for this, and she clarified that this is the healthiest she’s ever been and I can totally see that.
Though I don’t love the legs area, I think her collarbones are perfect and make her look really classy.

There is also some discussion about this in the Ariana Grande thread.

Rachel Zegler is the female lead in the new Hunger Games movie and starred in West Side Story back in 2021. She'll also play Snow White in the coming (and completely unnecessary) live action adaption. She has annoying theatre-kid "all the world's my stage" energy but she does have an incredible voice and her body is looking decent. Not SG skinny by any means but one of the better bodies in Hollywood right now.

I’m not sure if she could technically still be defined as a celebrity but Taylor Momsen still has a place in my heart (forever a Grinch and Gossip Girl fan, and also used to listen to her band The Pretty Reckless when I was an angsty teen) and she seems to be going for the skinny fit look these days. It’s not my cup of tea personally but I know some of you girls like that look so thought I’d share.

Here’s some screenshots of her recent insta posts, under which you’ll find the classic unwarranted ‘eAt SoMeThInG’ comments:

Unfortunately, her legs can appear verrrry bulky
which I think is why she chooses to show off her upper body more. But I respect her hard work and I hope she doesn’t take the comments to heart!
