Ask a model anything

I would love to know if any of these super skinny models get lanugo hair on they're arms and shoulders, and what they do about it.. wax or shave?
And if its a known thing in the industry..
Hope to hear some replay.

sorry this is not directly from the mouth of a model but to answer with IRL answer : yes they do. When A Model Anonymous used to update her tumblr she spoke about that. She was saying smthg like "how sad to see backstage some girls with hairs in areas where it's obvious something is going wrong" or something like that. So from this :

- some do
- some apparently don't shave/wax it

Thank you for this answer, I'm actually interested in knowing also if the lanugo hair grows back or not(after shave/wax) but you maybe don't know nothing about that.
And if any models have any experience, feel free to answer :D

General question for the models: How do you fill your free time, whether that's on set/location/backstage, or just days off?
I do my school, catch up with friends/family, read, go shopping, exercise..

Shaving is fast and easy.

Do you feel amazing/glamorous when you walk down the runway?

What does it feel to have everybody stare at you as you walk down the runway? On every show I watch, the audience looks at the models as if they were alien it's funny! ^^

I find that I go through the same process every time..

1. The days leading up to shows I don't really care
2. The day of the show I wake up in the morning in a great mood, looking forward to it
3. During hair and makeup I always get really excited and can't wait to step on stage
4. The last few minutes before the show I slowly start to freak and wonder why the hell I do this because I have major stage fright
5. Then I step on the runway and immediately feel fabulous :woot:

Oh, and then there are the days where the hair and makeup enhances your worst features and you feel absolutely disgusting and horrible and just want to hide in the bathroom until the show is over. On those days I just do my job, completely numb, try to pretend I'm not even there when walking...... :run:

That is crazy. For us peasants, you all look so beautiful; it is hard to picture a model feeling insecure after hair and makeup.

The first maybe 5 times I was nervous, now it's second nature. I feel powerful, absolutely fantastic. It's literally a high you get. Especially right before when you're lined up waiting to go out and while you're walking. It's one of the best feelings in the world.. yes it's stressful backstage and the castings are hectic but that 2minute high you get, is so worth it.

You should see some of the more, um, artistic shows.

Plus, LV F/W '13 had pretty hideous hair and makeup.

I have a question - I know that that whole "BMI has to be 18 to be on the runways" in certain countries is widely disregarded by people who are actually in the industry, but has opinion in the industry started to turn at all? I was wondering if it seems like public pressure may sway the industry away from skinnier models.

(Please say no - it would be a disaster if this happened)

At my old agency clients would often contact us if a girl they had booked had lanugo. Not out of concern, but to ensure she would wax before she next worked with them.

wow thanks for the reply.. so that actually happens!..

Out of curiosity, how many high fashion models do you think have eds? Like, 20%? More, less?

And those who do have an ed, are they treated? Like, going to a shrink, seeing a nutritionist etc.
Do they even want to get help, or they think it's 'part' of the job?
Are they embarrassed about their eating habits? Do they hide them?

Wow, lots of questions, sorry haha!

Ooooh, I have a question! Do you ever get people you work with act overly concerned about what you eat? Like, shoving sandwiches and candy down your throat?

YES! I even did a job for Vogue the other day, with five other models (super skinny) and within five minutes they were telling me how I never eat, I'm starving myself, and giving me sad looks because of my ed..
I just didn't want that gross lunch so I had apples, bananas and cold pressed vegan bars during the day. I mean, what the fuck?!
I was so shocked, they're MODELS, they must have seen a healthy diet before, no?

Oh, and during a runway show once there was this annoying assistant who kept forcing food on everyone because she didn't want models fainting on the runway. I tried to tell her I just had breakfast, a big portion of oat meal with fruit, but she would not let it go! And the food she tried to give me was mini cinnamon buns, caramel covered nut bars and sandwiches full of mayonaise.. I didn't even touch it.

Ugh, that sounds terrible!
I asked cause I had a job that required me to get up at 3h30 AM, and I was falling asleep from exhaustion and this woman started trying to make me eat candy cause she assumed I was passing out >.>
