Have you girls seen it? I really like it artistically, how it frames the "dream" and I love the ending...

South Korean culture toward skinniness. :luv:

I dont know korean so, I looked up a translation, and its even better. I figured the video was "random" like most american videos, not actually related to lyrics in themes, I didnt expect it to be actually proskinny. But it is.

HYOMIN - NICE BODY LYRICS (ENGLISH & ROMANIZED)

English Translation

Ah yeah
You know Brave sound
Hyomin, Loco
Let’s do that
Let me see your body move
I love that

Any woman would love to show off
Any woman goes on a diet at least once
When you’re a woman, you of course want to receive love
The prince of my dreams will certaintly appear to me

(I take note on everything I want to eat)
I live noxiously everyday
(I endure all the pains)
I’m going to be prettier
I’m going to love you more, I’m going to show you more of it
I will change, you will see
You do deserve it

My body is a nice nice body
Legs are very slim, with my hot waist
(give me love, give me love, give me love)
My body is a nice body
As if everyones surprised they turn back at once to look
Now, they can’t ignore me

Even you know, that your legs are beautiful, right?
Well I know too, when I stare at it I see, that
I don’t want to win, at least for today anyway
You’re so hungry you look like a log
All of a sudden I meet the best of chances
And I mature even more

Any man would wish for such a woman
Any man, as if they’re all the same, love pretty women
Every man thinks about sex at least once
If only they were thinking about me, would be great if it were me

(I take note on everything I want to eat)
I live like I’m noxious everyday
(I endure all the pains)
I’m going to be prettier
I’m going to love you more, I’m going to show you more of it
I will change, you will see
You do deserve it

My body is a nice nice body
Legs are very slim, with my hot waist
(give me love, give me love, give me love)
My body is a nice body
As if everyones surprised they turn back at once to look
Now, they can’t ignore me Baby

I’ve gone through so much
You don’t know hard I worked because of you
My nice style, My good feeling style
I’m also proud now

My body is a nice nice body
Legs are very slim, with my hot waist
(You’re irritating me now the way you can’t your eyes off of me)
My body is a nice body
As if everyones surprised they turn back at once to look
Now, they can’t ignore me

Also I thought there was a youtube thread, but I coukdnt seem to find it. Im on mobile so I checkex first pages but cant use the search tab, it closes itself on my tablet. But if tgere is still that thread active, please move this tgere and sorry :luv:

lol at the outfit with her measurements on it. she's a cute pop star!

In all seriousness though, it is refreshing to see somebody in music/media speaking candidly about what it really takes to look good, and recognize that slim and fit is, and always will be, the true ideal. If she was American she would get so much hate, seeing as our country is brainwashed to "love our selves" no matter what. It's such a fucked up mentality- if you really loved your body why wouldn't you WORK to make it the best it can be?! The Koreans get it!

I love that this is already a thread :D

I've had it in my head all day, though I'm not a fan of the twerking.

I'm sorry, but I find the whole theme of this song quite...disturbing.

Mind you, I'm not bothered by her talking about what it takes to be skinny. Rather her implication that you need to be attractive and be skinny to get love, or romance. It's awfully disordered thinking.

The skinny aesthetic should be something we pursue because we like how it looks, not because we think it would make us more loved or appreciated.
Yes, being skinny is better, but being skinny is not the pre-requisite to happiness and romance.
The fact that she implies it is just so vapid and shallow it's not even funny.

You know what thinking being skinny = love got me four years ago? An eating disorder, that's what.

I love this music video, although I do agree that the "I'm skinny so give me love" thing is a bit disturbing. I still find it very thin-spiring. :)

I like the video, it's pretty clever. it's like a satire with a socially critical meaning disguised as an innocent/playful pop song. It's kind of sad and relatable to me as well. My perception of the song was that when she was overweight, she was so deluded by the instant gratification of donuts that she was denying herself self-satisfaction and love. When you're overweight, people don't pay as much attention to you or give you the time of day they would a slimmer chick, which only confirms that you're not as desirable like you thought. In her dream, she was imagining how amazing she would feel if she had a nice (slim, fit, toned) body, and when she woke up she had a renewed sense of motivation to shed the weight and emotional baggage/attachment to food. It's not saying you have to be slim/fit/toned to have love, but you do truly have to love yourself before letting anyone else, and if you have a poor body image that makes it a lot harder. Some fat people think they already have a nice body and proudly display it, and there's people for them, but she had the barbie ideal and that is ok too. If fatties didn't have their heads shoved so far up their asses, they could accept this.

I could never get this translation to words, but it's definitely what i was feeling because it was so relatable to me.

Well put, @EliseMacabre.
I relate to this as well. I share the sentiment that for others to love you, you have to love yourself. Loving yourself and being comfortable/confident with oneself I believe is imperative, no matter what you have to go through (for example losing weight) to get there. If one can reach that state without changing, then that's fine too. Really depends on the person.
