Hi everyone, I'm looking to buy a nice tote for time when a backpack is too casual. :(

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm looking for something like this (in black, maybe):

But I think I want something a little bit less basic, because this bag seems a bit drab. Does anyone have any ideas / totes that they love?

If it's for school, I just use my Longchamp. Everyone owns one but they're seriously so sturdy (and light). My only complaint is the lack of compartments.

hah this is interesting...I just bought the Madewell Transport tote but it is still brand new and not broken in yet so I cannot attest to it's sturdiness. (however they do currently have a contest going on andd you can see it's functionality https://www.madewell.com/flatpages/totewell.jsp?intcmp=home_p2_totewell)

I personally like zippers so I can use totes as carry-ons and so I don't get stuff stolen, so I currently have one marc by marc jacobs similar to this which hasn't fallen apart yet (after only 1 month of usage) but I'm pretty rough with it & load it with concrete bricks...j/k...actually laptop, books, binders, wallet, makeup bag..the whole 9 yards..

thanks everyone!
the madewell transport tote is really nice, but i'm worried that it lacks solid structure. i might just go in and look at it in person. but yeah, this bag is more for work, where i have to carry a laptop (very light laptop) but also need to look nice and can't lug around my herschel.

Hi everyone ! I really need an opinion ( I'm sure all of the girls in this forum have good taste ;) ) about this bag. I already have two Givenchy bags ( Nightingale and a big brown studded one ) and one prada ( it's baby blue and made of suede ) and I found a Givenchy optical print melancholia ( 2010) in a secondhand shop. I wonder if it would look cheap or not. I like the print but ... I don't know. I've always bought unprinted bag as I found them more classical and elegant. So please, ladies, could you wear this bag ? And if you saw someone in the street wearing it, would you think that she had bad taste? thanks

Kate Spade has the best totes! They are good quality too. I just hate how popular they are. Feel like everyone has a Kate Spade tote. I've recently been looking at Rebecca Minkoff "MAB" totes in medium (either black or cream colored). They are simple, structured, and classy! This might be my next bag purchase since I'm in the market for a tote bag.

I dont recommend totes that dont have zip, I just feel so vulnerable to thievery if Im carrying one.

I dont know where you live, but I like bags from Zara and Parfois. They usually last me for 1-2 years of intensive use (I carry school stuff in them or sometimes groceries :D), but I dont mind as theyre quite cheap and I like having new handbag fairly often.

Personally I wouldn't think it's "cheap" but I'm not a huge fan of out-there prints and considering how most people style their outfits these days, I would probably consider it tacky. But then again, I also hate trend followers and people who don't pay attention to clothing fit, so... it could be just me. If the bag is really cheap, you might as well get it if you like it. If it's not "cheap", I'd recommend mulling over it because you could easily pay a bit more for something you REALLY love.

Thank you so muuuch ! This was my biggest fear ( since Kim K wears Givenchy, I'm always a bit scared to look tacky). I will wait !

If your budget allows it, buy the bag and then decide if you like it. That way no-one else will buy it in the meantime, and if you find it's not right you can take it back and feel happy that you contributed to charity :)

There's only two options aren't there?

(although if I were to get a Celine, I'd probably be more inclined towards the Shopper than the Luggage)

omg, that Cèline bag :luv::luv::luv: Those bags are my dream bags for sure. I think my husband would disown me if I ever bought a purse that expensive.
My best friend just got this prada tote

and I was in awe on how perfect it was.
