I don't think a thread has been made about this movie yet?

Anyway, it is out in the US already, and I had a chance to see it last night and loved it :) I was a Lord of the Rings fan back in the day when that whole trilogy came out (well I still am ;)) so I was quite excited to see this, but of course, the Hobbit is a much more lighthearted story than LOTR and this showed. If anything it was a bit of a parody of all the sheer epicness and gravity of LOTR haha.

Same team/director (Peter Jackson and co) as LOTR and alot of the same cast as well, Ian McKellan as Gandalf, Cate Blanchett as Galadriel. Supposedly it is part I of a planned trilogy, which sort of annoys me in that the hobbit would be just fine as a stand alone movie, its plain greed at this point to stretch it into three installments (as if enough money wasn't made with LOTR ).
Anyone else seen it? What do you girls think?

Just watched it yesterday, and I liked it. The landscapes are just... I mean... seriously... it´s UNFAIR!!!

And can I say that I have a little crush on Kili? Holy mother of God, I have a crush on a dwarf xD

Oh yes, completely agree about the landscapes, that in itself is a good reason to watch this movie (for me) just for the landscape porn!

And totally know what you mean about Kili ahaha:nervous:

Kili is so :luv:
Anyways I'm a huge LOTR fan and thought the Hobbit was amazing, especially as it was in 3D.
Do you remember the scene when the dwarfs are in Rivendell and the beautiful elves serve them vegan food which the fat dwarf refuses to eat?
I had to laugh so much even though I liked the dwarves ...

Well hello gurls, let me introduce myself. I'm that girl who's nearly fluent in both Sindarin and Quenia (Tolkien's elvish languages). Biggest. Tolkien nerd. Ever. EVER!

That being said, The Hobbit, WHOA.
Visually perfect.
Also, the music, Howard Shore is the best composer of our time. He's so awesome I forgive him for doing the soundtrack for Eclipse.
The story is changed, but not for the worse, which is kind of strange.
And even though I liked this movie so so very much, I'll never forgive Peter Jackson for being so money-hungry that he stretched the story to make not one, not two, but THREE three hour long movies.

p.s. Yup some of the dwarves were pretty hot. Some even more than that (Kili).

p.p.s. It's lovely that I'm not the only one here who likes this kind of thing. I sort of expected all of you too be way to cool, girly, grown up and not geeky enough for Tolkien. xD

@JessicaChristineYes, that scene was epic! The whole movie made me feel as if I went to the movies the first time ever. I swear I laughed so loud and held my breath even though I knew what would happen - could have turned out extremely embarassing ;)

Haha yeah I thought of SG immediately and all our discussions here, who knew dwarves suffer the same 1st world problems when it comes to moderation and eating healthy?

Oooh I studied Quenya and even learned how to write that beautiful script as a teenager (nerd alert I know :p).
With you there on Howard Shore, I absolutely adored the music he wrote for LOTR and happily lots of it was recycled into the Hobbit plus some new themes.
The three-movie thing is such a blatant money grubbing move but eh...there is no such thing as too much middle earth right...possibly

We're going with a bunch of friends so I need to wait.

And I don't want to wait!
I hope you guys have fun

Preach it sistah!

I actually have a tattoo in Tengwar (that lovely letter). It says ''leithian'', which is a Sindarin word for ''release for bondage''. It means a lot to me since I'm overcoming an addiction (it's going pretty well btw), an it's also the title to my favorite lay of Middle Earth, the story of Beren and Luthien.
Sorry I'm not sorry for the OT. I can never brag to people about my tattoo since no one knows about my addiction problems.

Anywho, if you get into elvish again, I could totally tutor you.

And, couldn't have said it better: there really isn't such a thing as too much Middle Earth. :luv:

I stayed away from the hype and I loved it! All that beautiful scenery porn! *___*

Some friends who got tired of all the hype were dissapointed but on itțs own itțs a lovely movie! Ițm glad to have been in Middle Earth again.
The added scenes were great, but I really need to reread the book.
And I want the score!

That song is the absolute best of the whole soundtrack. It's also where I've gotten a huge crush on Richard Armitage: he's hot, he's got a sexy voice AND he can sing! What more can you want in a man?

Btw, in case you don't know: the added scenes mostly (some are just invented by Jackson) come from The Unfinished Tales and the appendices in The Return of the King. Read on! :)

I loved it :luv:

And when they fought the orcs for the last time and Thorin is about to be killed but Bilbo jumps and saves him and Gandalf calls the eagles... Oh God I loved that scene.

I absolutely adore The Hobbit and the LOTR trilogy- books and film! I was a little worried before seeing the Hobbit, because it seemed like it was getting mixed reviews and bad feedback on the new 48 fps thing. I got to see it with a bunch of my friends on my birthday, though, and I loved it more and more with every minute. Now I really want to see it again! (Btw, had no problem with 48fps)

Soundtrack was wonderful. I'm actually listening to it right now.

Thranduil the Elf King looked really cool, and I can't wait to see more of him in the next movies. That elk/deer he rides is pretty awesome.

That said, I'm still a little skeptical about the whole three movie thing. I think the beginning could have been a little bit more concise. As long as the last movie isn't just one huge battle scene...

Can't wait for parts 2 and 3!

That sounds like a cool tattoo...Beren and Luthien of course, classic :luv: I read the Silmarillion twice back in the day (yeah, I was that person :run:)

The score is mostly recycled from LOTR, only a few new themes, I have the soundtracks to the original trilogy and recognized most of the hobbit music as from there.

Yeah I totally didn't notice anything different with the 48 fps thing...I read about it before I saw the film but nothing seemed unusual..I guess I'm not a real movie buff here lol.

If you hadn't friended me, I'd have totally friended you after reading this.

This reminds me of the only thing not perfect about the soundtrack. The music that played when Thorin was battling the orc who canonically actually died like 200 years ago sounded dangerously similar to ''The End of All Things'', the theme that played when Frodo was about to throw the ring in Mount Doom.
That properly pissed me off. You cannot try an make The Hobbit as epic as LOTR.

Neither did I! Oh wait. That's because my country's crap and we don't have the technology so I watched it in 24fps.
I hope we get 48fps until the third movie.
