Pair of shoes worth investing in?

I looooooooove Mansur Gavriel shoes. They're very simple but really well-made. They're only $500 which doesn't seem like the craziest splurge, but I might have a kind of distorted perspective. :faint:

Staple designer shoes in my closet are Gucci Horsebit Loafers (i love the new style too), YSL Blake Jodhpur (black leather and brown suede), chloe scalloped flats (so comfy!), and a pair of Prada leather boots! I don't really buy a whole lot of trendy shoes but I do like to treat myself to classics every once in a while :)

I'm having some doubts so hopefully I can find some help here :) I usually tend to splurge on coats, bags, clothing pieces but never on shoes. The only pair of designers shoes I own are some oxfords Prada that I got for Christmas a few years ago (and are still in perfect shape) and some very flat Chloé ones that my mom doesn't wear anymore. Other than that, I never really felt the need to own designer shoes. Now, I don't know what's happening but I'm developing an obsession with shoes (maybe it's Sex and the city) and want to own a nice pair :) I'm tempted if I should splurge for a pair I can wear everyday, like Balenciaga ceinture boots that have been a 'cult' for so long now, or Gianvito Rossi velvet boots. Or maybe some nice pumps or sandals, but I only wear heels at parties so I don't know if it would be worth it. I like to shop when my mind is clear on what I want or I always tend to go for whatever thing I'm feeling that moment and end up regretting it :hahano:
Any rec?
Get a pair of Chloe Susannah boots! Such a classic and they wear really well. I've had mine for a year or so. They won't go out of fashion like thigh highs or velvet

Quick advice; Balenciaga ceinture boots, are they still worth it? Because there is this boutique next to my school who has them paired with such a great coat and they look so cool. I'm tempted since they've been around forever but I can't tell if they're on their way out of not?

Would love to get opinions on this as well. I almost feel like they're turning into a classic. Other thoughts....black with gold or silver? I'm leaning towards silver to pair them with edgier clothing/moto jackets and silver hardware bags.

It depends on your personal style, they are quite bold so are they versatile enough that you would wear them all the time and get enough value? I think they are classic though they've been around so long. Get the metal you wear most of.

I just bought a pair of black Valentino rock stud boots in black leather with gold studs and they are super versatile, comfortable, and I feel like the rockstud has been around long enough that it has become quite classic too. They go with everything which is super convenient. With the balenciaga boots it might be a bit difficult if you also wanted to wear another statement piece or a crazy coat / bag etc.

I just looove the look of YSL Tribtoos. I don't know if that makes me a basic bitch, but I think their design is so sleek and sexy.

Does anyone have a favourite pair of (ballerina) flats? I'm looking into investing in a pair for everyday wear, and I'm not sure which ones are the best.

I'm utterly obsessed with my Sam Edelman ankle boots ;) They're the "Blake" bootie, I believe? Surprisingly comfy -- I've walked 10 miles all over NYC in them.

I always hear how uncomfortable Louboutins can be though, however I don't know if it's true, I don't own any heels from them.

Yeah, Louboutin can be painful. Got a pair of hot pink So Kates and they are stunning yet utterly unwearable. The Cataclou wedges, and those shoes with lower heel heights, are much easier.

@marieebo I know you ended up buying some shoes already, but if you are still contemplating the Gianvito Rossi velvet boots, I can absolutely vouch for them. His Vires are also really quite nice and versatile.

I just splurged for a pair of Rothy's flats and it is incredibly comfortable - the most comfortable pair of flats I've had. It's sewn using recycled water bottles and it feels is like a comfy slip-on. The point in black is a classic. Most importantly, the shoe is narrow and looks great on skinnies.

It is $145 though but I got a $20 discount using a referral code. If you want to get one, I'd appreciate if you could PM me and use my referral link so that I can get $20 off too. Yes, I love them so much that I want to get another pair!

My favorites and my first *big* designer purchase I made on my own were Margiela Tabi boots. Not everyone's cup of tea but they are actually SO comfortable, and a perfect basic, matte black classic boot with a heel that can be dressed up or down. The tabi toes definitely make them more of an eye grabber and have such an iconic cult following but are also subtle enough that I get tons of wear out of them!

So based on all these reviews I decided to get some Stuart Weitzman lowlands (FYI zappos had a very versatile color for 250 or 300USD less; Stuart Weitzman site has a sale of up to 40% off now (but be warned I believe some or all are final sale) Also, Nordstrom, Neimans, Saks all appear to have some pre-holiday promotions!. So amazing. Also I love how skinny the leg is*. Such a rare find to not have an obscenely baggy boot. (*Technically, contrary to what the internet or non-SG reviewers say, actually the legs are not super skinny, they are just trim. I imagine any lean person could wear them. I measured my right (dominant) calf before making the purchase (took a whole 10 seconds) which is below the shaft measurement and so the boots worked fine. I would say if anyone has a calf larger than the shaft circumference risks looking like a sausage. I have seen some sausage casing-looking fashion bloggers hehe, but probably this doesn't apply to ladies up here. Conversely if you have tiny calves maybe these could still be baggy)

@classichic @bingeonvogue @espressoenthusiast:

However, I must ask the pros up here, especially those who live in/visit cities with four seasons and rain ---how do you condition/prep/treat your boots? Currently I am living where I must weatherproof these or potentially ruin them.

I found research on the old "Dream Shoes" thread here: https://www.skinnygossip.com/community/threads/dream-shoes.3310/page-6 (@bingeonvogue -how is your purchase working out? I believe you said you have leather, but maybe you have also conditioned them?)

But can someone please further elaborate b/c I have never weatherproofed suede before and an horrified I might mess it up. Certain brands of spray? Should I go to a leather specialist? A shoe cobbler?

Nice choice, @pterodactyl! Weitzman makes great shoes, and I'm sure you'll be very happy with your purchase :)

I waterproof my suede boots with Springyard Waterguard. Apply the spray in a circular motion at a distance of ~8 inches, allowing each layer to set for twenty minutes before the next round. I typically do six coats prior to the first time of wear, and then touch up occasionally throughout the season.

The hair flattens after some time, so keep a soft brush for its maintenance. Don't allow stains to sit (I mean, it's common sense, but especially with suede shoes, dirt can be tricky to properly clean). I can't recall at the moment whether the Lowlands come with inserts or not, but you should absolutely use them to ensure the shaft doesn't wrinkle or deforms.

If you plan to wear your shoes year round, I would consider getting an extra sole applied by a cobbler--synthetic soles are both sturdier and less slippery than leather ones. At the very least prep them (the soles, not the skin!) with mink oil, but then you still need to be careful about the conditions of wear. No rain or rough ground. If, however, you chose to retire the boot for a season or two, a tip is to have them professionally cleaned before storing, though it's hardly a must.

(Sorry if I hijacked a response prompt to bingeonvogue, ee, or classichic, but I figured I might as well chime in with some pointers. I once ruined a pair beautiful Pradas, and feel somewhat responsible to ensure no other shoe faces the same, dark, destiny.)
