I loved the Iris Van Herpen S/S 2011 collection, especially that she used a lot of fabrics commonly used in architecture. Her designs are out-of-this-world.

The puddle dress is one of the most beautiful creations I've ever seen.

OMG. This is art, these are not clothes, these are sculptures. I love how avant garde this is  If Sarah Burton ever retires, Iris would be a great choice to take over Alexander McQueen IMO.

The attention to detail in her designs is remarkable. I love how she can manipulate not only fabric, but various other mediums in order to create her masterpieces. The collection is cohesive, with the nature-inspired theme tying everything together, but look has its own separate identity so that you could build a whole new collection just based off of each piece. This is not something you would want to hang in your closet, this is something you would want to put on display in a glass case. It's magical and timeless.

This dress in particular is exquisite. I was so amazed when I saw this that I shared the picture with a few of my friends, which is what a good designer should make you want to do.

Hello lovelies!
I was hoping to pick at your fashion-intellect. I am absolutely OBSESSED with Iris, and I was wondering if you could think of any designers that are similar or that have the same sort of thinking about fashion? Being a student of architecture, I love the connection that I see between the two fields in her work. It would be a great source of inspiration to me to hear your thoughts.

 Many thanks!

Iris is quite unique in the world now, but if you are referring to structure, science and architecture coming into play in the designs then hussein chalayan, martin margiela and mary katrantzou are a few to swoon to

The ones casarene mentioned, plus Gareth Pugh (especially his work from F/W 2012 and earlier).

I would love this thread to be more alive. I also can’t find a better thread to put this in.

Met Gala 2022 - Dove Cameron
A custom gown (Spiral Nebula) was worn.

“The highly textured embroidery of the 18th century is transformed into fine yarns that were embroidered by hand outwards from the tips of the sleeve artwork and hem, swirling feminine with each motion.
Layers of white fabric were bonded with recycled mylar in partnership with Solaris, to then be laser cut and stitched onto a template with the artwork integrated into the pattern of the dress.
Ten people have worked on her look for 600 hours total. Huge gratitude to the whole dream team and the gifted atelier that has pushed their ‘Craftolution’.“

I’m not going to waste my time bashing Dove Cameron but I wanted to share this gown with everyone because I love how distinct and creative Iris Van Herpen’s creations are. Though I would have liked to see the upwards curves have more equal spacing, I like the concept and how it drapes down into a semi flowing appearance.
