Controversial Fashion Editorials

Are you talking about the rehab editorial by Steven Meisel?
I loved that one.

You can take a look at the whole editorial here:

Aha! Yes! Wheelchair?? Hahaa oh god I obviously hadn't seen it for a while. Thanks for posting that :) :highfive:

Looks like Steven Meisel wins this round.

With D&G it's always the same .. pretty boring imo.

Yeah he so does!

And agreed on that too, I didn't even notice they were controversial until properly looking at them in this thread :whistling:

I adore controversial editorials!

Vogue Italia's 'Haute Fashion' shoot. Dropped for being too trashy and stereotyping.

Karlie-Kloss-Vogue-Italia-DEC11-545x728.jpg

This was so stupid!!! People blaming Karlie that thanks to her girls are becoming pro-ana and all that! Gosh! Imagine what would have happened if someone skinnier like Vlada or Abbey Lee was called "The Body". I mean, everyone praises Kate Upton for being in those teeny tiny bikinis looking like a vulgar porn star, yet this artistic shoot (which by the way looks way classier than Upton's Sports Illustrated crap) is degraded beacuse the model is thin and not chunky. Karlie does not look emaciated! She has freaking super abs!!! I think people just hate this because:
a) They don't understand photography and are ignorant about the fashion and modeling industry.
b) Compared to them, Karlie looks super tiny. If the average woman in the US is overweight then OF COURSE Karlie would look "too skinny" in comparison.
Jeez people, some human beings prefer the skinny aesthetic, deal with it!!! You keep being a fatty and I'll keep being a skinny and we'll be happy, ok? If you don't like that someone is skinny, TOO BAD. OTHERS DO!!!

Why are these controversial?

I was asking myself the same thing...

It could be because many american people are either really prude, so the "sexy" adverts made them butthurt, or (more likely) they can´t stand seeing skinny people.
Many fat people join gyms because they´re overweight and their doctor told them to have some workout. They´re not going for model-skinny like we do, they´re going for being normal / a little less overweight.
Of course pictures like that make them feel like being under a certain pressure, envy is a strong factor as well... :nopity:

Oh my, it is easy to hurt some people's feelings!

I've found this one...Vogue Italy (November 2010), Steven Meisel (again! He's a really teaser, isn't him? ;))
On the website people criticises it for: fur, nudity and models' body
The first comment says: "Perfect. A bunch of LIVING DEAD dressed on fur"...
well I can understand being against fur (I am too), but...living dead??? another one wrote that models are similar to lager people because they're "skinny and pale"

Why are these controversial?

It's Terry Richardson, right? Basically all of his work is controversial.
Just think of the Crystal Renn shoot with the food...so disgusting, but really good pictures. Or that Coco Rocha shoot where she is portrayed as a woman who is posessed by the devil (Miss No Nudity said afterwards that she won't work with Terry again.)

I think this article may shed a few reasons. Apparently, the models that were advertising that gym were too thin.

Though, I wonder if the photos (posted by @Jailbait) were a counterattack after the complaint or just mere advertisement.

I made a thread about it a while back http://www.skinnygossip.com/forum/showthread.php?t=249&highlight=america

Thanks Serene!

I like this comment from the article site:

Oh, give me a break.

Excessive skinniness is not America’s number one weight problem.

Unless all the fat women I see have eaten the thin ones.

Hey girls.

@Silent Night : People believed the models were 'too skinny' and did not embody the image of 'healthy & fit'. Here are some complaints from members:

“Why did all of the models have a runway physique? Equinox is promoting health and fitness, so I would like to see some healthy and fit women on their ad campaigns who look like they could actually survive a typical Equinox class.. Can we maybe see a little bit if [sic] muscle on the ladies next time around? The Nike ads are great examples of strong, fit women!”
“Fit is the new skinny!”
“Another couple million spent on the degradation of women. Good work fitness guys.”

@Serene : They are the actual advertisements that Equinox unveiled.
