Seriously, when your collections have been looking the same for at least five years and your taste level ranges from Croatian beach bar hooker garments to Flintstone Couture, why do you feel the need to 'create' 80 freaking looks?

So there are enough outfits for the Kardashians of the world, aka Olivier's #BalmainArmy to wear without "looking the same" despite all having the same inflated lips, nose, hair, overly contoured makeup, surgically enhanced blow-up-doll body..... I know I'm beating a dead horse here but I really do miss Balmain under Decarnin. Making something gold and glittery doesn't make it "classy".

This so much and it's annoying as hell when I hear people who just think anything designer is "sooooo pretty" just because they know the name is expensive. Like no, idgaf if they're both 'designer,' please don't lump Oscar de la Renta with Balmain :smash:

Not to continue derailing this thread but 1) I've seen some very questionable very expensive designer items (not even 'quirky' aka ugly-cute, just straight up questionable). 2) Balmain used to be BEYOND beautiful. Like ultimate dreamy Parisian chic with a hint of rock and roll. Now it just looks like cheap new money... 'expensive' but tacky & tasteless.

ONE of the world’s top designers says the fashion industry is moving towards a strength over skinny look on the catwalk.

Speaking at the Victoria's Secret show in Paris, Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing said “people don’t want to see hunger now”.
:orly:

Rousteing, whose high-end line has been worn by the Kardashians, Jenners and Rihanna, singled out Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid for being “strong”.
:hahano:

“Gigi and Kendall are so strong and powerful and so so smart and that’s what you want in girls to inspire the new generation.”

Omfg this whole article though

It’s no secret Victoria’s Secret models train like athletes, working out in the gym and eating clean in the months leading up to the show.

Victoria’s Secret veteran Adriana Lima, 25, documented her sweat sessions on social media in the lead up to yesterday’s runway show in Paris.

So what happens after the show is over? They all can’t wait to eat.

Hadid tucked into a burger, Jenner desperately wanted one (she captioned an Instagram photo with “burger please”) and Dev Windsor posed in a photo with a pizza.

“I’m actually dying of joy inside,” Windsor wrote on Instagram.

Ah yes, what a spartan and olympian life they are leading :smash:

What struggle, much discipline :mclap:

Officially surpassed the stage of slyly designing your entire collection for tacky new money plastic suregery ridden thick girls.

Maybe this article wouldn't come across as some desperate boot-licking advertisement for Gigi and Kendall if he hadn't already been designing exclusively to suit their tacky style. I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if they paid him to say this considering he's more than likely taking a huge pay check already in exchange for catering to the likes of the Kardashians.

Back on topic though - the entire collection looks boring, tacky and cheap. Everything here looks bulky and uncomfortable, and there seems to be very little harmony in the styling. It's just messy.

That article is horrendous. Lima is 35. THIRTY FIVE. Not 25.

So credible, much w0w :mclap:

I'm so glad I checked back into this thread to read the added comments. I looked at the collection and was really underwhelmed and wondering what happened to the designs that were so great 5+ years back and put Balmain really on the (or my) map. Therefore I was ignoring the thread for a bit, trying to come to terms with my confused impression of it. Now it makes sense... I never really followed when Decarnin left, but alas, this explains it.

Also, maybe I just have an over active imagination (yes...), but I as I was looking at this collection with its combination of shaggy, reptilian clothes and "strong models" I realized my summary of this show: The costumes for PREDATOR. Also Arnold's line can be used to describe our nepotism model closing the show..

I feel like there was some other Sci Fi film with a big shaggy looking bird/alien that this show made spring to my mind, but I can't think of it now. Normally I really like tight leather outfits and some of what was shown in this show...but in a theatrical way-not really for HF. If I really wanted to see 80s sci fi or viking inspired clothes, great, but I guess now this makes me think that I should have started looking for VINTAGE Balmain jackets a while ago.
