Anna Karenina is movie that's coming out sometime this year. I think Keira Knightly is gonna star in it. When I found out about it, I was annoyed because I just read the book (which I LOVED) a few months ago and the same thing happened to me when I read Twilight

Anyways, anyone who's read Anna Karenina, how do you think the movie is going to turn out?

I read Anna Karenina when I was 14 and sort of hated it....maybe I was too young, its hard to give a crap about the trials and tribulations of adultery if you barely understand what that means lol.

The new movie will have Keira Knightley and Jude Law right? I love Keira so maybe I'll give it a shot....but that said this is certainly not the first time this book has been adapted for the screen, whether mini series for TV or movie...it is after all a classic- imdb lists loads of prior adaptations: http://www.imdb.com/find?q=anna+karenina&s=all

I just finished this book. Kind of heavy for pleasure reading, especially in high school, but I really liked it. I can't wait to see the movie.

Anna Karenina is my favorite book of all times!! :luv:

That's why i'm not going to watch that movie, as it might ruin it for me (not sure if that's possible, i love this book that much, but just in case ).

I loved it lol. I connected with it because the description of the character's feelings were so... idk, sublime lol. It was awesome that the author was able to put such deep obscure feelings into words. Alot of times I'd think to myself, "Omg, I know EXACTLY how that feels!"

I'm kind of nervous and excited for the movie. Makes me want to watch all the previous adaptations that have been made

I've read the book during my freshman year in college. The one thing that bothers me about the movie is that Levin and Kitty seem to have been pushed aside. I liked their story more, though to be fair the title is Anna Karenina.

And Keira looks stunning in those gowns.

Aww really I thought they were so cute with the way they acted towards each other:/

I'm going to watch it because of Keira.
She's always such a beautiful thinspo for me :luv:

i love the book and i love keira BUT I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW SHE GETS THESE ROLES she cannot do a fucking accent to save her life! who saw a dangerous method?? i cringed every time she came onscreen. blaagh!

Heh, I know what you mean, ES. Keira has very unique looks that I actually love, but I never see her as a sincere actress. She was atrocious in Dangerous Method, but there's something about her that's so charming at the same time.. I really think it has to do with this intangible je ne sais quoi that she has. Incidentally, has anyone seen her new Vogue spread? It's ... meh.

Haha, I hate it whenever the american 'russian accents' are so awful to hear and exaggerated and Keira's in A dangerous method was one of the worst I've heard. That, and Angelina Jolie in Salt but in her defence, she was actually speaking russian in some scenes.

hahaa, i know its ridiculous, and sounds like shes doing an american russian accent when shes british! just aaaawful

Oh yeah, @Ally. You speak Russian! Pussy Riot?

If you don't know what I mean, that would be a pretty forward opening line. (Putin, the protests, the justice?)

Haha ohh that's really weird of me then. Ok, here are a selection of the craziest facts: There's a band in Russia called Pussy Riot. They've got up to 12 members, they do all their performances wearing coloured balaclavas, and never perform in organised venues. They're actually a punk band, and I don't know a thing about punk. I don't know them from their music at all, and by the sounds of things, nor does Russia. I know about them because they're political activists, particularly regarding feminisim and justice. Hence the name "Pussy Riot". They recently performed a 'guerilla' concert in an Orthodox church. They've been arrested and face very severe charges. It's become high profile partly because the Western World laments the injustice, but also because the media are using it to emphasise the inevitable divide between the West and Rest, to suggest democracy could never flourish, because Russian citizens are largely unsupportive of the girls and feel they deserve their punishments, because they did, after all break the law.

So that's a little world news story for the day. I asked you because you are able to speak Russian, and that gives you a better perspective on both the lyrics, the reaction, and possibly your view on justice.

Bit more than a smutty porn spread, hm?

Actually just saw the movie today and thought it was very nicely done! Keira Knightley was beautiful and although we all know she's not quite skinny, she still seemed that way since its a period piece and every single dress she wore was one of those corseted-tight-top and big and puffy below the waist types, and her upper body is her skinniest part so it worked out in her favor :) oh and Cara Delevigne had a bit-part (showed a close up maybe once and then had her in an opera audience scene), so that was nice, she looked very cute and elegant as a russian princess :luv:

I thought Keria Knightly did better than expected, especially during the later parts of the book/movie when Anna is on morphine and starting to lose her mind. With that said, the girl needs to figure out how to move her entire face at the same time. She does this thing where only her jaw/ mouth moves that drives me crazy.

Levin & Kitty were, in my opinion, both really well cast. I do wish that their story got more attention but the haystack scene was perfect.

I'm debating whether or not to see it again... Anna K is my favorite book and while of course the movie doesn't do it justice, it still makes me really happy to see the book come to life.

Can anyone recommend one of the older films that's better?
