Abbey Lee Kershaw

I live in Williamsburg and just passed her on the street. She used to be one of my favorite models. She was exiting a gourmet grocery store and I instantly recognized her. Her pale blonde locks had green tips and she was dressed casual - in these tight black stretchy pants that she's been photographed in before. Weight-wise her legs looked a bit thick - she didn't look model skinny.
"Another one bites the dust!" lol

well, she has retired from modelling. She's still slim, just not model skinny and she has no reason to be. I think if I had to starve myself for most of my life and then no longer has to, it'd be tempting to let myself eat like a non model. I'd always ensure I was still slim, of course.

I may have been a little bit mean. In my defense, I was already annoyed by her previous comments. :supermad:

Abby was one of my favourite models, had the attitude and the cheekbones. Shame she's bashing her career the way she is now though, she'd be nothing without her modelling career and she knows it... but she also knows how to control the media and knows exactly what to say to get herself boosted up with the coverage. She knows what she's doing and she's doing it well.

I find that ridiculous with any industry. I remember one lecturer was saying how she was paid sooo much money in her old job to fire these hard working staff and she did and then she quit that job. I raised my hand and asked what she did with this enormous sum of money she was paid to fire people....some absurd answer which translated to mean she was perfectly happy to keep it herself and then complain about the job requirements.

If Abbey truly cared about changing the industry she would use her influence and money from it to help other models. But she doesn't.
What does she expect from such complaints? She was more than happy to exploit the requirements and restrictions when it benefitted her. Like that fired Vogue Australia editor. But that's a different story.

I mean she's 28. There are far and few 28 year olds who seem to spend their life doing so much for others. This is in generality about the age. It's difficult to tell if it's because of age, personality, or a mixture of both. I feel that being in the entertainment industry, you need a rather big ego, so it doesn't surprise me when they're not generous or kind. It surprises me when they are.

"Changing the industry" might seem like a fantastic idea, but that's saying "stop global warming." There's only so many rational steps you can take.

Very true. I had not thought of that.
Thank you.

We really need to stop using age as a justification for being a shitty person. If you don't want to change the industry, then don't. No one expects you to. If you want to have a positive influence, then do something - don't just talk the talk and do the complete opposite in your private life. If you wanna be selfish, then do so (we're all selfish after all), but STFU and stop pretending you're such a selfless person.

I see what you're saying. I think anyone who says anything about another person is doing this, though. I mentioned her age not so much to relay it on the number, but I meant it more factual. I think at the time I wanted to use the entertainment industry to be a reason why people are the way they are. That's why I think Abbey said what she did. She's in an industry where growing up is stunted to a slower process. You can say the same about an average middle aged celebrity, they're mentality is so ridiculous immature.

The Australian accent has an inflexion at the end of every word? :cautious:
Still facially so beautiful though.

NO! Things like this irritate me more than they should. NO ONE speaks like that. NO ONE. It's as laughable as thinking kangaroos or animals roam the streets or people wear hats with corks hanging off them. Not everyone surfs, it gets really really cold in Winter and lots of people don't drink.
It's very similar to South Africa if anyone has been there.
She's portraying 'Kath and Kim' - google them.

Abbey's natural accent that you hear at the beginning of the video is actually quite bad and lower class if you want the truth. It's like thinking Kate Moss represents English accents.

And agreed - she looks good.

NO ONE speaks like that. NO ONE.

I have to interject here and say that in both Australia and New Zealand the upwards inflection is really really common in speech. Not saying everyone does it by any means (and Abbey here is clearly exaggerating for comedic value), but it is definitely a thing, especially in more rural areas.

Agreed inflection is common but as you say absolutely nothing like this. As I said it annoys me more than it should so I get stupidly riled up defencing speech which is absurd.
And I have never visited rural Australia I must admit so where I socialise people speak more like the English.

Nooo you misunderstood me. Obviously I know not every Australian speaks like that, I was more making fun of the way she spoke because it sounded so unnatural. Literally, she adds an inflexion after every single word. If someone spoke like this in RL, this would be my response: :slap:

Ps. you two had me questioning my spelling of "inflexion" but both are right. Thought I was going crazy for a sec

Haha you misunderstood me too. My message was not to you it was to Abbey. I seriously apologise as re-reading it I appear unjustifiably rude and attacking you.
What I meant was that it annoys me when people like her reinforce inaccurate views of Australia for whatever reason. I don't know why it offends me and I am not even Australian, I am just living here but anyway.

I remember the first time I heard Abbey speak - it totally destroyed how I assumed she spoke. Since she is acting now and doing videos like this I expect her to be the stereotypical Australian wielding knives and catching animals. Sigh. I won't be watching those movies.

PS - This is how I experience Australian speech
