Triggering tumblr links?

This is just my £0.02.

I notice that a lot of girls have links to their tumblrs in their sig - like me! However, some of these tumblrs appear to be weight-loss tumblrs, which is all well and good if the weight loss is healthy. I've noticed that there seems to be a trend - particularly among newer members - to link to pro-ED, pro-ana or unhealthy weight loss tumblrs (you know, the kind with the "ABC diet" and all that shit). Given that LOTS of people have ED histories on this forum - and that we are NOT an ED forum - I wonder if there should be a rule about posting trigger warnings in signatures for weight loss tumblrs? Only, I clicked on the link to a certain user's tumblr today and saw a black-and-white blog glorifying "ana", with images of self-harm and dying, emaciated girls. Not what you need on a bad day when you're already having trouble eating breakfast :/

Has anyone else noticed this problem?

And my tumblr is my "safe space" - no weight loss there :p

Also - if you're a fitspo/healthy food/general tumblr, link me and I'll follow you. My tumblr is a pretty clear indication of my taste ^_^

I second this...
I try to avoid any blogs that involve self harm posts/pro ed content, so it's really great if people state what their blogs contain next to the link or something.

I agree 100% with Samira. I can't check every tumblr but if i come across triggering sites, i will delete them. Just don't post those links.

I usually don't spend enough time on them to get super entrenched in them... I am normally very disturbed by what I see and leave after a few scrolls. Having been there it's just not good. Not good at all. Glad I'm not alone in this.

I agree with everyone here, even though my tumblr is thinspo. I post mostly pictures of models in editorials, with the odd personal post about my anxiety disorder, but nothing pro-ana or personal about weight-loss. Is it ok to have it linked in my signature? I don't feel like its triggering but you never know what might set someone else off. If it isn't, let me know and I'll remove it, or alter my description. :)
I did notice in the tumblr thread a couple of blogs that cover SI and ED, and (in my opinion) glorify the idea of the tortured soul. As someone with mental health issues this really does trigger me, and I think blogs like these need to be labelled with a trigger warning.
Everyone here likes skinny girls, but emaciated girls with "FAT" carved all over them isn't what I want to see and I'm sure I'm not the only one here.

Thank you, I don't think I've noticed a triggering tumblr yet, but this is very helpful... I'm trying to avoid anything and everything that could trigger unhealthy behaviours back again...

That's the sites i have a problem with, there is nothing glamourous about having an eating disorder. If you come across pro ana links, feel free to pm me and i will take care of it. That's what i meant when i was talking about triggering sites (although i know that other stuff can be triggering too).

You're tumblr is great!!!

If girls could just put "may be triggering" next to possible triggering tumblr urls that would be great. Also, I would appreciate it if we could extend self harm to pictures of cutting and so on..

I like this idea better than censoring / deleting people's links. I want to reserve censorship / deletion as a last resort, for stuff that's clearly way over the line.

I hope mine doesn't come across as triggering. I have veered strongly towards healthy realistic images and fitspo (and random irrelevant things that I just find funny ) as it triggers and depresses me to even see the self harm and talk of starvation and constant self criticism on my dash - meaning I have done a lot of unfollowing over the years that I've used tumblr. I don't really understand how spreading that kind of thing helps anyone. You just get sucked into your own darkness and drag everyone else down into it with you...

I personally think what is triggering to someone might not be to another. If there is any sort of a thinspo link, should we put a "possible trigger warning" beside it? Then again, if you are that easily triggerd, maybe you shouldn't be on SG

I personally think any link with tons of GIFs/Pictures of girls actually cutting and stuff should be deleted. I don't think anyone want's to see that.

Exactly those points

I think those two points completely contradict each other.

I have come across links to tumblr's with pictures of cutting and thinspo and if thats how girls want to express themselves because thats what they are dealing with, just put a trigger warning.

there is a difference between this:

thinspo-2.jpg

&
Warning: i couldn't bare to look at it but I saw this on an ACTUAL tumblr blog a few times in the past.
deleted because @SugarFree asked me to -skinny2012

Both could possibly be triggering, but one is not acceptable. I feel like it's pro-selfharm. There is nothing good about it.

We are pro-skinny. We don't need to be linked to pro-selfharm.

@SugarFree

i have never seen an image like that posted on a tumblr that belonged to a member

you said that what might trigger one person wouldn't trigger another, but then went on to say we need to censor self harm? to me that is a complete contradiction. you can rationalize it any way you want to, but it is.

members post pictures of VERY thin girls all the time. does it mean they are supporting anorexia? i bet all of them would say no. if they posted a picture of someone cutting because thats how their life is right now are they telling girls to pick up a blade? uh, no.

You are using your opinion to decide what is "acceptable". We don't all see it the way you do. That's why we have a trigger warning, not censorship.
