after wearing brands with logos plastered all over their clothes, i have decided to make a few changes with my wardrobe (and a lot of my clothes don't fit! :D) and I want to get more high-end designer clothes. I am willing to spend some money on good classic pieces, but I have also been looking in sale and thrift/consignment shops recently to try and find more unique pieces. A part of my wardrobe I'm REALLY trying to improve is my jeans. In the past few days, I bought a new pair of seven for all mankind jeans and a pair of True Religions i found in a consignment shop. So i guess i'd say i'm looking to build a more casual wardrobe, but I want it to be come classy/high quality. Yoga pants are my weakness :wtf: I need to stop wearing them outside of the gym!

Since I know many of you are in the fashion industry or just very fashionable and image-conscious, does anyone know of any good stores or online sites to look in for discounted designer clothes? and which items should I just go to Nordstrom's and Neiman's and buy full price?

I am hopelessly lost, and any advice would be much appreciated!

I don't know whether you can discounted stuff on ASOS (USA website) but here in the UK there's a lot of designer items on sale from ASOS, which is good. But most of the designer items on sale I can only get during the big Winter and Summer sale. Some brands have sample sales, which are good if you know where to go, like J Brand where I've gotten a few jeans for less than 40 pounds. If anyone knows about sample sales, or designer stuff in the UK, London, I'd love to know.

I've heard lots of great things about sample sales. I wish I loved closer to NYC! And i'll be sure to look at ASOS. Neiman's has a pretty good sale going on now too. If you're interested.

EDIT: I looked on the ASOS site, lots of great deals right now! Thank you!

I'm just going to suggest, since you're planning to shell out so much, buy investment pieces - the kind that won't go out of style any time soon.
Like the perfect leather bag that will just get better with age & jeans that you can wear for years!
I'm so jealous of my dad, he wears the same jeans he bought 10 years ago & they still look amazing.
I don't know about discounts, but you can browse a good collection of designer labels on Net a Porter

Yeah, I think a leather bag is a great investment. From what I've seen online, a LBD, a good bag, an awesome pair of jeans (I'd say more like 3), and a trench coat are the classics that should be more expensive. Luckily I already have an awesome trench so I guess I need to work on the black dress next. I'm not sure about brand though. Any suggestions?

I really want a burberry trench they are gorgeous!! I would also suggest buying basics like black and white vests and t shirts as you can layer them and they help build your wardrobe :)

I'm trying to do this to, invest in high end pieces. Sometimes it's just so hard for me to convince myself to even buy anything over $50! Anyways, there is this great website that I go on almost daily (the sales always change) and they have everything from designer clothing to decor and beauty products. I've shopped with them a few times and they are amazing! Just try to log in first thing in the morning because the products go out fast! :luv:

Beyond The Rack.

If you're looking for discounted designer clothes, look at Century 21. They have high-end brands and ridiculous discounts! I have things from Chloé, Michael Kors, DKNY, Emporio Armani and Diane Von Furstenberg from there. I go CRAZY there! Also, Nordstrom Rack, Saks Fifth Avenue Off Fifth and Last Call by Neiman Marcus have discounted pieces from the original department stores (I went crazy and bought six BCBGMAXAZRIA blouses and four 7 for all Mankind jeans in Nordstrom Rack). Many of the things may be last season though.
Also, try to look at the shoes on sale at Bergdorf Goodman, I once scored a pair of Miu Miu shoes for less than $200 and a pair of Manolo Blahniks with 50% off.
When you're shopping high-end, basics are first, as those will last you for a lifetime. Here is a list of classic basics everyone should have:

Also, I would recommend to spend more on accessories rather than clothes, as a Louis Vuitton handbag can make a shirt from Target look expensive and a pair of Christian Louboutin heels can make Levi's jeans look like Sevens.
Good luck! I am a sucker for high-end brands :p

Some basic items could be:

A biker/leather jacket (only if you wear leather, because most faux leather variants are complete shit).
Rick Owens' styles are so amazingly beautiful, but really expensive.

Some good fiting jeans in a classic dark denim, light wash denim and black.

A leather bag of good quality you can use for years. It only gets more beautiful when it ages (same for leather jackets).

Of coarse LBD, you can choose any style, as long as it fits your body.

Basic t-shirts, tops or vests in basic colours like white, black and grey and maybe some in more bright colours. Personally I like green and blue, because those colours suits my skin. But if you have a darker glow than me, you could wear even yellow (so jealous of those tanned girls  )

I was actually at last call earlier today for the first time! it's awesome! I was kind of "scoping" it out to try and figure out what i want to buy, because I get paid in a few weeks a good amount of money :luv: But I got another pair of true religions at their store, which was an investment but they're the best jeans i've found. And I agree, accessories are really important. I want a pair of Jimmy Choos SO BAD!

I want a pair of Jimmy Choos REALLY bad too! :highfive:
As I said before, look at the shoe sales at Bergdorf Goodman! I got Manolo Blahniks at 50% off and I saw quite a lot of Jimmy Choos at a great discount, sometimes even at 60-70% :) But they didn't have my size :(

will do! I love Bergdorf's, i've been there a few times whenever I was in NYC. absolutely FABULOUS. But yes, i'm on a mission to find the perfect pair of Jimmy Choos that are my size (9.5, BIG FEET:wtf:) and look awesome!

Scope the flash sales too! Just make sure you google comparison shop before you buy, but for example, I have a small collection of Helmut Lang tops that I got really good prices on :)

Don't buy trendy pieces higher end, ONLY pieces that are of a type that are either a) classic wear all-the-time basics or b) extraordinary

T k maxx all the way! Also, if your old stuff is in good condition you could take it to a dress agency to help fund your new designer wardrobe.

I would suggest looking on eBay for designers that you like. I just got an amazing Kate Spade purse there for 75 dollars - in brand new condition. The prices are often hugely discounted from the sale price, and you can still find new things there!

i am so so jealous now! :nopity: how much did you spend on them?

Couple hundred total? I've been collecting them over a couple of seasons.

I know the brand's not helmed by the designer anymore, but the relaunched line just has so many tops that are like my perfect happy combination of edgy-slightlypunk-feminine :)

wow, thats amazing! I need to start really digging around to find some great designer pieces. I was able to find a $388.00 True religion jacket for $29.95 :wtf: the other day so that was a steal! But I'm in need of higher designers. I know there are several levels of "designer" brands.

Splurge on a really good, really expensive purse/ bag. i find that bags and shoes cannot be compromised on, the difference in quality is outstanding. Plus a good purse can last you for a long time!!

Also, I splurge on jewelry- rings, earrings and necklaces. again, the best quality has a timeless elegance.

Have you tried boutique events? It's basically the leftovers of designer sample sales. The items are usually only online for 1-4 days, at most a week, so you have to be constantly checking out these sites! It's so addicting! But so worth it, I've spent about $600 in the past month and I have a whole new wardrobe-3 sweaters, 4 shirts, 3 dresses, a new book bag, one pair of pants and 4 pairs of shoes. Amazing!

all of these are .com, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post the full site so I'll just put the site name
