Models: Before & After Weight Gain (or Loss)

Tragedy. Holly Rose Emery.

She apparently went from overweight to very thin a good decade ago, but now has basically reverted back to overweight because she has “become a woman” (quotes from her interview).

I really cannot grasp how these people need to go from skinny to EXTREMELY FAT. There’s no in between anymore?

You can’t get to that size without eating something like 4000-5000 consistently everyday. Even if she ate a normal amount of 2000, she would still be average weight and not overweight like this.

I get you feel deprived from maintaining skinny, but then eat junk for a week then. Gain 10 pounds then and lose it again.
Why go so so overboard and gain sooooo much of weight? Can’t wrap my head around it. Now she’s stuck in an overweight body when she could look so good.

Holy shoot, her cheeks look so unhealthy. Her teint. I mean there's people with that colour naturally but since she didn't seem to have it before, I assume it's the same red cheeks that obese people with cardiac problems often get. Mostly caused by eating too much red meat and unhealthy fats. She must not only eat giant amounts of foods, but literally only extremely unhealthy ones... Sad to see

I will never be able to understand the sentiment of giving up something like that in exchange for short term reward of food with detrimental health issues in the long run. Granted, if it's done un an unsustainable way then she might fool herself into thinking she's feeling better being fat (not just her, applicable to a lot in this thread) but then you clearly took the wrong approach and are lacking education.

Even if you do decide that a rather disciplined lifestyle is not for you and fail to integrate 'SG habits' into your life and would rather follow mainstream masses and fit into the norm, fine - your choice.
But she does NOT look healthy. The way the weight is distributed, the fact that it just looks like layers of fat without any muscle definition what so ever, the bloated face and cheeks, hollow eyes + swollen eyelids, she does not embody the ideal of a 'normal healthy' weight either. And spiraling back and forth between two extremes? Terrible, mentally and physically.

What I don’t understand is the need for extremism.

I actually understand it completely that people do not want to be SG skinny. It’s difficult and going against the grain.
But why the extremism in weight gain? Surely it must be EQUALLY difficult to be stuffing yourself with 5000 calories a day??
You are just trading one “disordered eating” for another except the trade off sucks, because now you have a fat body that comes with it.

These body positivity people are hiding their binge eating disorders or other types of disordered eating through advocating Body Positivity.

Disordered eating is so much more prevalent amongst the masses ( amongst the body building community/ the fat movement community etc) , but people ONLY EVER CALL OUT the super skinny when they talk about disordered eating.

It is absolutely frustrating!

I agree with this, and what also makes me frustrated is that these people are eating for two (or more). They are eating as if they were feeding two adult women while normalizing it because they are body positive or whatever reason they might have.

Trying to justify their gluttony while people are starving and the earth is dying is, to me, egoistic and unethical in so many ways. I actually feel deep sadness for the humanity and for the environment.

I can’t imagine this opinion would be well received in other communities. Luckily, I believe you here on SG can understand my feelings which is a little comforting at least :luv:

I wouldn't necessarily post her weight gain since she openly spoke about her Eating Disorder. She even
addressed that "getting healthy is not letting yourself go".

Omg I didn't know... I feel kinda bad now. But I mean, she posts pictures of her body so I'd guess she is fine with her appearance? I don't know much about eating disorders but I'll try be careful with such things.

I wouldn’t equate sharing images of your body as confidence but I hope that’s the case here

I came across some old photos of Magdalena from the very start of her modelling career and couldn't believe how chubby she used to be.

These runway photos are from S/S 2006 and F/W 2006 fashion weeks, and an editorial shot from around the same time.

She obviously got her shit together after F/W 2006, because here she is just six months later during S/S 2007. Quite an impressive transformation in a (relatively) short period of time.

I always thought Kelsey Merritt from Victoria Secret was always big. Never came across a skinny version of her since she joined VS.

Surprisingly, she was a decent size way back when she modeled in the Philippines. How sad she decided to become “curvy” and “sexy”.

Notice how her vibe, pose and presentation after the weight gain is sexy, pouty and sultry while when she was skinny, it was invariably high fashion and fierce even though her lips were still very full.

She had more appeal when she was skinny even though her face never struck me to be anything more than commercial.

Of course the comments are giving her the validation she’s looking for, “you’re not even plus size now, you’re so beautiful and healthy!”

Alyda Grace
I came across this shoot for Cake Magazine, sadly no date, and am honestly quite impressed about Alyda's weight loss. Regardless of still requiring improvement in her hips and thighs, her upper body and cheekbones made incredible progress.

Natalia V

Was looking at older runway shots of Natalia today, and wow, I never realized how much larger she was when she first started modeling! Love the way the loss enhanced her gorgeous features, not to mention how lovely her legs looked afterwards.

She lost a lot of weight after she had her son (late '01). Not what you usually expect, but her body was best the few years between baby 1 (Lucas) and baby 2 (Neva).

Not sure but I think the first pic is S/S 2001 so it actually would have been Sep. 2000.

The photos from S/S 2003 are even more impressive now considering that they were taken less than a year after she gave birth. So inspiring since most women usually go the opposite way.

Yes, you’re right. Just checked and the first two pictures are from Rocco Barocco S/S 2001. :flower:
