When was the last time you have been to the cinema? What movie did you go to and did or did you not like it?

The last time I went to the cinema I watched "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" (a David Fincher movie). I've also read the book and i liked the movie, but I prefer the original movie with Michael Nyqvist and Noomi Rapace, because it is much more authentic.

I want to see that movie! But I also want to see "The Woman in Black" I am a freak for horror movies.

I know they are great! But all my friends are too scared to go
:)

SAME! We were going to go see a movie last night but we couldn't agree on one because they wanted to see The Vow (barf) and I wanted to see the Woman in Black so we ended up watching 50/50 at home which is supposed to be funny but was really depressing.

Eww I hate romance movies how awful that they tried to make you watch that. Horror movies for the win  x

I really enjoyed 50/50.. I think it's totally worth watching!

i liked it, i just hate sad movies and it really is a sad movie. i hate when they advertise movies as a hysterical comedy and people cry through half of it :(

I saw "the girl with a dragon tattoo". I think it was the last one I saw in a movie theatre. I hadn't read the book, but the film was almost too heavy. I can't just sit there and look at a girl being raped. It's too much, I can't look at violence. Maybe because I've seen things in real life. It's not something abstract for me, it's something that happens for real.
Makes me think why "a clockwork orange" was so light and easy :hmm:. Maybe because it didn't have such father/daughter sick aspect. Or maybe because instead of screaming there was Beethovens' music.

The last movie I actually saw, was "the artist" a few days ago. I like silent films in general, and the scene with actors nightmare was utterly genius, but I don't get what is the fuss around the film. It's not that original anyway. Of course - nobody makes silent films these days, but it would be original to make a modern movie silent, not make a silent film about silent film era. It's quality and cute, but nothing more.

What I really want to see is "the iron lady". To those who live in Britain, Thatcher may be a glorified politician, but I've read about her before - she is a fucking Napoleon!

i really hate how disgusting movies and books are today. i like horror movies, but i like ones that are suspenseful and you make you jump. movies with a ton of rape and dehumanizing themes really get to me. i make sure to censor the movies i watch, books i read, sites i go on so i don't upset myself. i hate the whole dragon tattoo craze going on because i hate thinking about the rape scene being described. i was in my history class last week and these group of students were talking about these horrible movies and i thought i was going to be sick :(

The author of the book, Stieg Larsson saw a rape when he was about 14 and didn't help. He felt incredibly guilty for that his whole life and I think this is why violence against women are one of the main themes in the book.

Rape an violence against women happen in real life, why should it be a taboo to write about it?

I think I didn't make it clear that I wasnt focusing on that particular book. Although I don't understand why it had to be so graphic and extended. I meant it more globally. Like the movie The Woman or I Spit On Your Grave (or whatever thats called) movie & remake, 100 Days of Sodom and all that. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is just slightly in the same group to me.

As for rape being a part of every day life so why not show it, I guess we just have to agree to disagree :)

I remember reading a review about the film. Its author talked also about the book and Larsons' experience...and how he wrote books that instead on focusing on violence and rape as a problem, made a really cool detective story out of it with lots of action.

I think that's where peoples' thoughts begin to divide about what is immoral anyway.

I wasn't trying to offend you. But that was how I read it. Just trying to have a friendly debate :)

I know that I am extremely sensitive to violence against women, so for people who think its is acceptable to reenact, I just disagree with them. It doesn't mean that I think I'm right and their wrong or I have morals and they don't. In other parts of life I'm totally on the other end of the spectrum. But rape to me is crossing the line in how it can be portrayed. I think people keep putting it in movies & books to add drama and make it seem harmless and take the seriousness away from it. Then viewers walk away from it feeling like it isn't serious and the cycle continues.

Allright I see you're point. It's just that I'm a fan of Stieg Larsson. He was really comitted politically and I admire him for his fight against Nazis, no matter how many death treaths he got for his articles. It's sad that he didn't live to see the success of his novels.

I completely understand. I really like wasn't even talking about Larsson. My mind skipped from that to the other things I was talking about. Sometimes I don't realize I leave out a big chunk of my point because my mind is always all over the place. Also, a lot of time people don't see any connection between what they were talking about and what I skip too and it is never a them-problem it is always a me-problem. I need my brain to sloooow down.

The last movie I saw was Titanic in #D. My sister wanted to see it, and my mother asked me to go with her. It was very nice, although there were about 6 in the theater.

I watch movies a lot. I buy a movie every other week and watch it at home, and I go to the cinema quite often. The most recent movies at the theater that I saw were "21 Jumpstreet", "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", "Titanic 3D", and "The Vow". 21 Jumpstreet was really really funny. It's up there in my favorites with The Hangover and Step Brothers (Step Brothers is my all time favorite). I read all of the Steig Larson books, and while they were disturbing, I really liked them because I've never read anything like that before. I saw the original movie too, and I liked both the english and the original the same. They were just good in different ways. Titanic is just a classic, and I will always love it. And The Vow was nothing special. I'm really bored of Nicholas Sparks. Recently I bought "Life is Beautiful". It's one of the best movies I've ever seen. I recommend it to everyone, it's really amazing.
