Possibly just went about veganism the wrong way and gained. It happened to me too a few years ago :slinkout:
How do you get into veganism and gain? I mean, I know being vegan doesn’t necessarily result in a weight loss and so on, but I never could have thought that there was the possibility of gaining! Just genuine curiosity

Well, if you do it her way and eat fried cheakpeas... Plant based or not, a calorie is still a calorie. People tend to eat a lot of rice, nuts, beans, heavy sauces when they first go vegan - which puts them in a caloric surplus (especially if they ate small amounts of meat and no carbs before changing up their diet). On the other hand, once you figure out what works for you, most vegan foods are low in calories, hence why people lose that weight pretty easily after (a.k.a what I did).

From my general knowledge (which I’ll admit is quite limited) I think it’s mainly to do with two things. Firstly, you’re trying out a lot of new things to replace the animal products. You only have to watch her vlogs to realise she’s kinda obsessed with chicken and relies on the fact that it’s low calorie and high protein at the same time. As someone who spends a lot of time in the gym, getting the same levels of protein is probably hard for her and she’s probably had to resort to extra tofu, nuts, quinoa etc, all of which are comparatively higher calorie. I know she mentioned that she swapped avocado and eggs on toast for avocado and hummus on toast— that can easily be another 150 calories if done haphazardly. Also, I know that now I’m transitioning to veganism, I’m so much more tempted when I see vegan desserts than I was with regular ones. But maybe that’s just me :hahano:

Secondly, a perpetual bloat when starting veganism is almost bound to happen. When all your meals are based on fibre-rich veggies, beans, whole grains and legumes, your body gets all overwhelmed for a bit and just looks thicker, a bit like hers.

Either way, both of these things can be healed over time. Your body gets used to the fibre and you learn what works for you, whilst getting increasingly bored of vegan desserts and junk food. Here’s to Romee getting skinny again :highfive:

For me, I had a “oh it’s healthy I can eat more of it” mentality:facepalm: I know...slap me. I caught on pretty quick thank God. I cringe at all the big sugary açaí bowls topped with more bananas and handfuls of granola I thought was okay because fruits are hEaLthY

Unhealthy comfort food is still unhealthy comfort food even if it’s vegan

That’s what happened to me. I love chicken and tuna - high in protein, low in calories and they taste delicious. When I went vegan I was desperately trying to replace these foods with things like quinoa. But as you said, they’re higher in calories and they’re obviously plant-based alternatives, not identical replacements. So I ended up craving chicken all the time and eating less healthy than I did before I went vegan.
It’s not like I only tried for a few months but I ended up giving up veganism for that reason.

And I know quite a few people who struggled when it comes to replacing healthy foods you simply cannot replace.

Who is perpetuating this myth that quinoa is a good source of protein??? If you’re really concerned about protein as a vegan, eat some tofu, seitan, legumes, or protein powder, although there’s a good chance you probably don’t need to worry about it.

To get an amount of protein even comparable to that of a small chicken breast or piece of white fish (80-100 calories), you’d have to eat 2.5 cups of plain cooked quinoa, which is almost 600 calories and 90g carbs. No thanks :nervous:

Time for what I eat in a day...!

All good until the acai bowl, which could've been saved for dinner and skip that sushi.
Ideally though that huge chia pudding could've kept you full until late lunch, and then that salad she got could've been half lunch and half dinner.

Her face looks really bloated, but so glowy. I need that foundation!

211 grams of CARBS? Those macros can't be right. I am lucky if I hit 50 grams of carbs in a day....

Don’t you eat keto-style though? 200g is a fairly average amount of carbs per day.

Depends on the source of the carbs. If her salad is 54g of carbs, it would have to come from the dressing or whatever legumes she puts in it. Veggies and protein are low in carbs. But if she is following a vegan diet, a lot of vegan foods can be high in carbs.

I guess it was just the number that threw me off.

Edit: just realized she eats a lot of fruit. So the carb number makes perfect sense.
