I'm a bit biased as she looks just plain ugly to me, but here it seems like she's not even trying to get a good shot...

moon face girl. super flat, pudgy cheeks (how much of that is down to her "illness") ? idk what is going on with her squinty eyes with nothing behind them- they look smaller than before! & she's literally just standing there. with no makeup & simple aesthetics, really wish they had chosen someone else because all i can focus on is where she lacks.

I feel like the shoot was trying to channel a certain vibe, such as that of a beautiful child of nature bare faced peasant girl, but clearly GiGi is no Nastassja Kinski.....I'm surprised the photographer didn't see that on photo 1 and see it was NOT working...it's not like they had to wait for the film to develop to see THAT underwhelming result was in the future....a few stills from Tess in comparison:

My other theory is that very little effort is needed with the Hadid's anymore to pretend they are on par with actual HF or even commercial models...the US public is brainwashed enough by IG to just devour any rubbish product or publication that features them. Talent and actually working through the ranks is clearly optional these days for some....

This. It’s so clearly past the point where they need to justify putting these girls on covers, so they just do it to sell magazines to their fans with complete disregard for seasoned readers or fashion fanatics. It’s the business model for print these days - look at Forbes putting that catfish Kylie on the cover with unverified numbers and no evidence backing the ‘billionare’ claim because the publicity was too good to turn down.

All too often a ‘famous’ face outranks talent and it’s disheartening. It seems they hope these girls sell copies and care very little for the integrity of their brands.

Still recovering from that horrific cover but I actually like the editorial.
Is it because her face is mostly obscured by shade and masks? She did manage to show her ONE skinny feature: the bottom of her pointy carrot legs, i.e. her calves....

Not making a diagnosis... but purge bloat or excessive alcohol was the first thing(s) I thought on Bella's editorial. And I live with someone who has Lyme disease (albeit a mild form that flares not regularly)... I'm sure there are plenty of other things it could be but the lighting and makeup certainly aren't helping ...

I feel like the public likes them BECAUSE they are so average.
Successful HF models usually have a unique weirdness to them, and are too odd looking for the public to admire. VS models are -in the public's eyes, again- of extraterrestrial beauty and perfection: unattainable.
Gig' and Bels are just pretty enough to be admirable but the public can't hate 'm too much: they're not insanely gorgeous and jealousy-inducing. Especially with their before & after pics slathered all over the web: chubby Gigi, pre-nose job Bella. Basically your everyday teenagers-turned-supermodels, a cinderella story many girls dream of.

This is a picture from 2010, apparently, and I would love to see what their faces would look like today had they not yoyo dieted like crazy and gotten fillers and surgeries (in Bella's case, at least).

Gigi was perfect for commercial back then, everytime she’s tried to revisit that mass appeal California/sporty archetype since it’s fell flat... and I don’t think it’s related to the weight loss because Candice at her lowest was still able to channel that vibe. Now it feels like Gigi isn’t right for either end of the spectrum.
