Omg and the thing about people thinking it's fine to say "fucking white people" preeacch. So sick of hearing "yes all white people are racist (even if you don't think you are you are!!)" and then subsequently "it's bad to make blanket generalizations." :hahano: I mean I do think it's a little pointless to get in instagram comment fights (doubt anyone's mind has ever been changed by those) but if she has time and isn't afraid to speak her mind then whatever.
"I'm not trying to change the whole sport and its requirements"

I think she comes across as foolish/childish and extremely unprofessional for engaging in these instagram fights. A lot of us aren't afraid to speak our minds. You don't see us looking for arguments on social media. AND just because someone has a black friend or whatever does not make someone "not racist". I'm so tired of hearing this (usually from the most ignorant of people aka those not worth your time arguing with).

It feels gross like she's touting her black friend as a trump card against the commenter. Also just how many comments she writes to the one commenter, how much effort she's putting in to be so defensive...it's juvenile. Though she is, what, 17-18 years?

I love Ratner, I also just don't think this is a sparkling moment of her throwing it back at 'the haters' and not taking shit.

Agreed. And she frequently comments the “hfconfess” page, seems like she’s too concerned with what they have to say which she shouldn’t be because it’s definitely not a reputable/knowledgeable source. She has experienced the hf world as an actual model.... she should channel her energy elsewhere. Because she actually has access to it rather than any ordinary person

Confession pages are still a thing? I thought they died with 2014 Tumblr...

I adore Ratner as a model, but her internet persona is something I cannot get with. As Gracilis said, her parading the “validation” granted to her by her black friends is unsavory at best. I’m a year younger than her... seeing this is really offputting; I almost want to be harsher towards her because of her immaturity. I sincerely hope that she matures & educates herself.

Lol I can imagine myself as a model and having someone write the same confession about me. I’m always the one with the unpopular opinion and it’s hard for me to be politically correct sometimes.

Not to get off-topic, but regarding her post about gymnastics-

You can still do gymnastics if you're tall, just like you can still do volleyball/basketball if you're short or whatever. It's just that you're at a physical disadvantage due to the mechanics of the sports. For gymnastics, having your center of gravity at a lower point provides more balance, and there's less space in between you and the balance beam because your limbs are shorter. For basketball/volleyball, being taller helps because you reach the highest point in your jump faster than others.

I think the requirement for being tall for modeling is a bit different-modeling reflects what's considered attractive in the contemporary era; we have tall and skinny models now, but in the mid-1900s we had curvy Marilyn Monroe-esque girls. It's kind of a subtle difference (and this is sort of irrelevant now that I think about it lol), but I don't know I just wanted to say something. I don't know if super tall models will always be in-demand in the future, but I feel like for gymnastics/volleyball/basketball/etc the height "requirements" are pretty stable (well, for gymnastics, the advantage that short gymnasts have only developed after a radical change in the "style" of the entire sport. But I digress). Because (unpopular opinion, I know) I don't mind short models at all and would not be opposed to seeing more of them, just from a consumer's point of view. I'm sure that the industry has reasons for favoring super tall models though. It's just a personal opinion :nervous: :supershame:

Sorry for random and sort of OT tangent! Now back to regularly-scheduled programming :luvluv:
