Super spamming the thread but: Classical Symphony with Maria Khoreva as the main soloist in the pas de deux at 5:30 in part 1

Can't find Conservatory (the third ballet they did), but maybe someone else can?

Again, sorry for spamming the thread. I've been on a ballet kick lately and have found a lot of interesting stuff, and this in particular would probably be interesting to a lot of us here.
From a blog that mainly posts about Russian ballet (melmoth.blog, worth looking through if it's something that interests you):
A post about the girls height and corresponding weight at VBA

To summarize: There is actually a chart with recommended weight for height. Girls who are heavier than 50kg cannot do some elements of partnering (such as lifts) because it could risk injuring the boys. Here is the chart:

Are you able to translate (eg what is the top table vs the lower one)?

My russian is super rough right now, but generally: top table is girls, lower table is boys. The "рост" column is height in cm and the "вес" column is weight in kg.

Under the "girls" table:
Note 1: For those 169 cm, allowable weight plus/minus 1 kg. For those taller than 170 cm, allowable plus/minus 2 kg.

Note 2: Girls larger than 50 kg it is only permitted to do partnering with the support of the ground to avoid injury to the partner (essentially no lifts or anything where your full weight is on the guy)

Under the "boys" table:
Note: For those 169 cm, allowable weight plus/minus 1 kg. For those taller than 170 cm, allowable weight plus/minus 3 kg.

That chart is very useful. Many ballet schools use it as an example for their students. If a student is overweight (according to the chart) they'll be told to lose weight, they'll have points taken off at exams. I also like that lately if someone is too thin they're told to eat more and gain. It is important to be thin but it's even more important to be strong.

I wouldn't have guessed that by looking at some of the Vaganova students - do you think it's true or more of a policy they've adopted to avoid criticism from outside but that everyone ignores?

Well, maybe it's more if they get so thin they don't have the strength to dance, rather than visually?

Well what we see as too thin might not be too thin for them. But I didn't read this online, I heard it from students. If they're so thin that they're losing strength or it effects their growth they're told to eat more. Some students say it publicly, for example Yana Cherepanova and her mother said that Yana was told to eat more so that she'd gain a bit and grow.

I am unspeakably in awe of skinny ballerinas because of the amount of muscle they must also have... All the girls on here are so incredibly amazing :luvluv:

This chart and this thread in general makes me think of the Russian ballet thread, I just love this subject so much. I find these girls so inspiring especially because of the combination of strength and skinniness. The older I get the more I feel that I don't like the skinny look alone but with strength you're also able to move with more intention and grace, and I think live more fully. Another student from Vaganova I really like is Saya Okamoto, I don't think she's been mentioned here before.

So happy to see a Japanese ballet dancer on this thread!! I know a lady here in Japan who's daughter is a ballerina. She legit told me "my daughter only eats lemons". Combine the Russian discipline with the Japanese work ethic and you get the ULTIMATE ballerina.

Japanese ballerina's are very good. Especially if they train in Russia. I have a Japanese friend who trains in Bolshoi, she's lucky to be there though. Most of the time the Russians don't like their body shape as they're shorter.

Elenora Sevenard graduated VBA last spring. She was the VBA "prima" last year (this year's is Maria Khoreva :luvluv:). She got offers from both the Mariinsky and Bolshoi and she is absolutely lovely. I'm guessing she's going to make it big in Bolshoi because she's already proving herself capable in soloist rolls in her first year. She's a bit of a ballet "celebrity" because she is the great-grand niece of Matilda Kshesinskaya, a very famous Russian ballerina.
She has a lovely body, especially her arms and collarbones.

And just because its Nutcracker season
