Models By Relation

Do you mind models who are only signed because of who they are related to?

What ignorance?
I think your anger/hate/venomous words are somewhat misplaced. Where did this rant come from? Was my comment about Kendall Jenner's career (which was echoed by several people) really that offensive to you?

Why is that no matter what I say someone gets angry? I'm simply trying to contribute to the discussion.

I'm not sure what the vendetta a select few members seem to have against me (despite the fact that I've been here for like five minutes, certainly not enough time for you to make such sharp judgements) is all about, but it seems that some people cannot get past it regardless of what I have to bring to the table. I mean this is really getting ridiculous.

I applaud the fact that you actually wrote a proper text. For once. After making such an ass of yourself in the new faces thread.

Now would you please shut your mouth?

bella is fat and the editorial sucks except for the fact petra collins does cute/whimsical styling, and does it well.

I think what I was trying to get at was that Bella is going to be modeling whether we like it or not - if she lost a lot of weight it would be a lot better. I liked the editorial - not bad for Bella, and the concept and overall theme was very cute. It was definitely one of Bella's finer moments

The situation was discussed with SG as well as several VIPs, and we've reached a mutual understanding. It's over, it's solved, and I would appreciate if everyone would return to going about their business as usual, rather than dragging this out, despite the fact that they are not involved and do not know the details of the situation.

Fair enough. If there was a discussion I have nothing else to add.

I'm just going to add my two cents to the original poll question.

It definitely irks me when people get jobs on the basis of connections alone. However, let's be real - this happens everywhere. I think what's more important to see what happens next. If some middle class girl gets a modeling job because of her daddy's connections, fine, as long as she takes the job seriously. She is already granted higher-level jobs that girls with her experience wouldn't normally get, then she should work twice as hard on that job. Respect the job and everything that comes with it (like LOSING WEIGHT, something some of these nepotist babies don't seem to understand). When they don't take it seriously, I have no respect for them. You're given amazing chances, then do something with them.

EDIT: I see some people don't believe this thread should exist. I think it's actually quite interesting. We discuss this topic a lot in the threads of models like Bella Hadid. Isn't it better to leave those threads be about her and be able to discuss this subject extensively here?

I think that it's because it's a topic that's been discussed so much in the past few years so it's boring and we all end up saying things we've already said, over and over. And it probably should be on the fashion industry thread, I think it would be more fitting

It's certainly an exhausted topic, you're right about that.

i couldn't agree more--privilege plays a role in every step of the job process (education to get a good job, connections for interviews, money/ability to hire tutors for testing, you name it...the same is true for modeling, and even more so for entertainment. What really matters, is are you qualified to be there in the first place, and how do you act once you're in the door. If one were to act poorly, or differently than anyone who had no connection whatsoever did, I'd automatically lose a lot of respect for them.

I think we should make a thread where we ask to the others if is okay to create a new thread/ if they're interested into, before actually creating one. Lol.

I have a slightly different take on these "models:"

To me, and I admit to having a less-than-generous heart, I think a model by relation is either 1.) stupid by all common measure and/or 2.) the grossest attention-seeking whore.

1.) Allow me to explain, models, even the high earners, don't make very much money compared to those equally visible and at the top of their field in other professions. We can't. Take 30% agency fees, other agency expenses, and taxes, our net income is a weak shadow of the original booking. Granted, we get lots of free stuff and that conceals our true salary. Our career life span is one of the shortest. We are at the mercy of our agents and clients. We have few rights--I wasn't allowed to rest on my job today (8 hours) but every intern and assistant's assistant had 3 donuts and a pack of cigarettes to himself. Not a big deal. Not complaining, but when I think what a person with considerable privilege could do with their lives that is simply impossible for those without gratuitous financial comforts, I'm revolted. How many gifted people would be fine artists/writers/musicians but have to be waiters or teachers instead? You could start a business, go to a pricey university and spend a decade becoming a marine biologist and NOT have to eat ramen noodles or ruin your future with debt. You could dedicate your life to religion or other humanitarian adventures. When girls like Cara D try to exact pity and relatable points for their personal branding for doing poorly in prep school [the kind of school little dirt clods like me dreamed of, for any day I was going to be taken to Hogwarts/Star Fleet Academy/Jedi Academy--far away from my current obscurities] and going into modeling just because they can't really do anything else despite their many, many leg-ups. This is the more charitable conclusion, being stupid, since intelligence, though plastic, can only be helped so much.

2.) These disgusting spoiled whores are models because the only thing they value is their immediate popularity. There is a special circle for them in Dante's inferno for they are human garbage.

I've mentioned in other threads how wonderful an opportunity like modelling can be for rural or otherwise estranged girls like me. It can bring you into the world and send you on to wonderful places and wonderful [but different] careers. The model by relation shits all over this tradition.

I know I'm harsh but I don't really . . . care?

That would be easy if you'd STFU with your arguing and defending your actions. Drop it, stop trying to have the last word.

@Artemis I only know you through your posts here, but I can tell from posts like the one above that you are one of the most ambitious, dedicated people I have ever had the pleasure of encountering. And that you deserve every success that has ever, and will continue to ever come your way. God knows that not every model I've worked with or befriended has had your attitude, but every time I meet one on that same page, it's a blessing, and I'm sure that @FashionThin and everyone else who works in this industry will agree.

In summary, and back on topic, if only everyone was just like us SGers we wouldn't have such a problem in the first place :highfive:

Truly an excellent point.

Just as an example, the Hadid sisters could have learned from their father and become property developers, it's not as though the only things they had an opening into were the celebrity world and modelling, they probably had an opportunity to do a career that is closed off for the majority of people but instead they're imposing themselves on the modelling world, probably because it provides instant gratification.

It should simply depend upon their capacity for the job, just as for any other form of employment. A small degree of added bonus such as more pay would be expected, they are lucky enough to have famous names and sure they'd get a bit more money for the added media that brings to the brand or event. But the current wave of blatant nepotism shown those with certain last names, and certainly no other talent, is simply revolting.
