Thinspiration Movies & Shows

This may sound counter-intuitive but I recently watched the movie Castaway and I found it to be surprisingly effective thinspo.

Really appreciating just how difficult it is in the "wild" world of nature, for us (or any animal for that matter) to get food.

You have to physically work your ass off just to open a goddamn coconut! An edible plant is a huge blessing and sucking every drop you can get from it feels like feasting, even if it's only the nectar of a few leaves or what have you. Something like meat is possible, but you risk your life to get it, and in doing so you have to physically wrestle with a living animal, to meet it face to face and actually feel the life leave it, then butcher it yourself. You eat it with the knowledge of that experience, the pain and the triumph of it, and you are nourished by it in a more intense, more enlivening way than anything else.

We have more than lost touch with that primitive experience of food. Not only do we have no physical struggle to get to our food (as physical is replaced by financial), but the food itself is usually totally removed from its original state, processed and shipped and picked by someone very, very far away from you, often with a tiny fraction of the flavor or nourishment that it would have in the wild.

Considering all of this, the food in a shop or a restaurant suddenly looks plastic to me. I don't feel any profound hunger for it, just the superficial hunger that I've learned from habit and clever marketing. I'm more than a little disgusted at the anonymity of it.

I'm not saying that the food industry is evil. After all, I don't particularly want to abandon modern life and become a voluntary castaway just so I can appreciate the taste of coconut water, and I realize that the human race is generally better of with people having more equal access to food, but I do want to feel that connection with my food, that vitality and necessity and gratitude and wonder.

I'm sure there are ways to get it back. Maybe it's by waiting to eat until I'm really, seriously, mouth-wateringly hungry. Maybe it's by growing something myself. Maybe it's by taking the time and care to cook, recognizing how incredible it is to have the luxuries of a sharp knife, a gas stove, a pot.

Even if I eat the same prepackaged food sometimes, that thought at least helps me to understand the full meaning of that convenience, beyond the cooking that it saves me from doing, into the effect it has on the world and on the food going in my body. It stops me from lusting after that convenience, as if my life would be so much simpler if I only had the power to magically conjure my food out of thin air.

That's my thought for the day. Anyone agree?

I agree 100% and this is a feeling I've held for quite a while. I try to combat the feeling of "plastic" food by growing some of my own produce and herbs. I also like to support local farmers markets but purchasing things I can't grow myself, from those who can- this also helps me "eat in season".
As an aside: you are extremely eloquent. This was beautifully written.

White Christmas (strangely enough) has always always always been my favourite. Vera-Ellen is simply divine, and even though it's funny because Peggy Lee's voiceover singing from her definitely does not match how she looks, she's incredibly beautiful and it's just such a happy film.

Sadly, I think I should note the fact that she suffered from anorexia and died quite young. However, she did radiate beauty and poise and I think that's also very important.

I've always thought the same things! Vera-Elen's legs in that yellow dress, and her waist in "The Best Things Happen While You're Dancing"...
Probably one of my first thinspos!

Some of my fav thinspos are on tv... just to see them in action for an hour

Fiona from Burn Notice (Gabrielle Anwar)

And the entire cast of Good Wife (thank God it's finally back on!)... looking at the stills doesn't do them justice, but julianna margulies has a lovely xylo, and kalinda's arms............ <3

I know this was mentioned in the Documentaries thread but I thought I would give it a shout out here too,

Forks Over Knives - not exactly visual thinspiration but about plant based eating. Shows how eating crap and being fat makes you look and feel bad and costs taxpayers tons of money.

Supersize vs Superskinny - mentioned in this thread. I only had to watch one episode to be grossed out and wanted to eat less crap.

White Christmas, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Sabrina, and other older movies with classy thin actresses.

I've always been naturally thin but these kept my motivation up to eat healthy and not eat Starbucks and McDonald's.

I'm watching Hungry for Change and it is really an inspiration to not only be skinny but to be healthy.

Jeune et Jolie is a really good thinspo film due to the lead actress, Marine Vacth.

I found The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo to be great thinspo.
Both Ronney Mara and Daniel Craig are exceptionally hot , their scenes together are :ijizzed:

Rewatched this Korean movie 200 Pounds Beauty yesterday.
200poundsbeauty.jpg

It's about a fat and ugly ghost singer who goes for an extreme full body plastic surgery/makeover to try and win the affections of her producer, in the process becoming a famous singer. Honestly the movie wasn't as great as I thought it was when I first watched it as a young teen, but I love the legs of the lead actress! They're skinny yet not weak or scary looking, and personally I prefer legs to be lean without so much muscle or fat definition unless they are really, really thin.

I'm just going to leave this clip here for anyone looking for some leg inspo:

Not even reverse thinspiration, but definitely gets my appetite to level 0 - Hannibal (the tv show). All the cannibalism makes me want to :superpuke:

Haha I wish that was how it worked for me. I've watched shows like Hannibal, House M.D, Bones, etc while I'm eating lunch alone a lot and it has no effect on my appetite, lol. With Hannibal I'm more inspired - from the way everything he cooks (obviously human, but ya know) looks so delightful to the eye, quality over quantity, that kind of thing. Haha, I just find the entire show so aesthetically pleasing. :luvluv:

I watched this the other day because of you and I can only agree, great thinspo! The story wasn't anything spectacular imo but her body is very lovely!

Oddly, I though the PBS show Frontier house was decent thinspo....watching the fat melt off the families and the one family whining about food and weight loss while some of the others are saying they are in the best shape they have ever been in after all the physical work. They start talking weight at about 17minutes in:

Frontier House Ep04 : Survival

I love Gabrielle Anwar - she's got such an engaging face and great body :)

But I thought Kalinda gained a lot of weight in The Good Wife. I really like Archie Punjabi but the later series of that show are not her best look.. the costumes look wrong on her.

^She did! I also found myself getting sick her character, honestly kind of glad she's gone. I still love Alicia and Diane's looks though, they both have great character depth and the stylists do a good job... have you started watching the new season?

Has anyone watched 'The Road Within' on Netflix? Zoe Kravitz lost weight for the role. She actually looks so gorgeous throughout the movie..

She looks average. But I love Zoe. It's also not the best choice because her character suffers from more than one eating disorders, so it wouldn't make me feel comfortable using her as inspiration in the first place.
