Girls, I just came home from cinema and the movie was f*ckin fabulous! I am so hyped I want to cry. Never have I seen such a beautiful movie - Angelina, CGI, everything was perfect! And OH-MY-GOD those cheekbones.

Have you seen it? Do you plan to? Tell me!

OMG I saw it on thursday at an early viewing for it. It was sooo good!!! Angelina looked fantastic, the whole...just.....AH! I loved it!

The movie was 90% Angelina Jolie close-ups of her gorgeous cheekbones :luv: I was in awe the entire time. I wish I could pull off red lipstick that well.

I loved Maleficent. I went to the cinema yesterday to see it. Sleeping Beauty has always been one my favorite fairy tale, so I was very glad to see this different interpretation was so good as well.

I really really really do recomment it.

On the other hand I find it somehow ruined now that I've seen all this feministic bullshit about "GIRL POWER" "WHO NEEDS A MAN" (it's all over the internet). I hate how feminists try to jam their crappy theories into everything.

Why does it bother you that some people interpret it in a feminist light?

*SPOILERS*

Maleficent's connection with Aurora seemed more about maternal instincts than sisterhood. But Maleficent is a strong, self-directed, dynamic female character with a wide range of concerns who does not let traditions define her. So I don't think it's out of line to say she is a feminist character.

I agree that no "who needs a man" angle was played in the movie (although that wouldn't be feminism-related, anyway). Aurora definitely seemed interested in the prince, who seemed like a pretty happy-go-lucky dude.

I enjoyed watching it, but was kind of annoyed that the only * real* character was Maleficent. (I realize that there were other characters, but they tended to be pretty two dimensional.)

I also felt like it was very much a '3-D movie' made to show off effects, rather than a properly made film enhanced by 3-D.

Despite these criticisms, I'll admit that I was pretty into Angelina Jolie's look.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I have nothing against women empowerment, but the extent to which feminists interpret the movie to serve their theories just bothers me - I mean exactly the 'who needs a man" angle you mentioned. It's really cool that movie shows women can be central heroines and it works out great, what I don't like is the overinterpretation. It's like you give them finger and they take the whole hand, you know what I mean?

Don't get me started on that :D I really dislike 3D cinema, but I had to see it in 3D because it was either 3D subtitled or 2D dubbed, so I chose lesser evil. I agree about the "3D movie" part, but somehow I feel that it would be as spectacular in 2D (maybe even better). When the DVD is out I will definitely watch it again and then I'll tell you if my hunch was right :D

Just came home from the cinema, I LOVED the movie.:) And Angelina was so beautiful, those cheekbones could cut glass! :luv:

I had mentally discarded this one from my personal "To watch" list since watching Angelina Jolie wearing horns for 150 min didn't sound like my idea of entertainment, but I've heard very good comments about it and you girls certainly are making me change my mind about it... might go to the cinema to check it out this weekend...

Yea she's stunning in the movie- in paparazzi shots she looks worryingly gaunt/haggard, but I was mesmerized by her face the entire time I was watching. Especially when she does her evil smile, I get chills

I saw this in 3D and I thought I was going to get cut with her cheek bones. so lovely. loved the story too!

Feminism =/= not needing a man though? That's kinda like the flawed pseudo feminism crap that gets pushed in the media: feminism = men haters, feminism = women > men.

I'm not the OP but in a way this does bug me. I'd like to think of myself as a strong female, but I can damn well need a man if I WANT to. I'm very against "feminists" telling me what I should want because fuck you, I'll do what I want, when I want, and I fully accept the consequences. But no one tells me what I "should" do. It's also kinda like saying being a feminist = not allowed to be sexy/enjoy sex/flaunt your body. Uh no. I can look good, enjoy sex, AND be pro-equality. They're not mutually exclusive. I'm completely off topic but oh well. I really want to watch this movie though. Angelina is too beautiful.

Well I couldn't say it better.

I couldn't have said it better.

I'm a proud feminist, and I hate it when people think that feminism is about not being allowed to need a man, not having/enjoying sex, not enjoying/ improving your appearance etc. It's about equality, and having greater freedom and choice, rather than limiting it.

(apologies for going off topic)

I LOVED this film. I especially loved

SPOILERS

The scene where she wakes up after her wings were burned off. It was so powerful.
