Wedding Dresses (for those of us who care about them)

I realize that some of us couldn't care less about them (I thought I was one too!), but I spent all day yesterday trying them on, and it was so revealing.

For one, they nearly always look better on skinny girls. Sometimes an average or heavy girl can look better, but it's because she has a really pretty face, great skin and hair, good proportions, or is able to pick a style that really suits her. Also, judging by the moaning of the other girls in the shops, you'll have fewer and less complicated alterations if you're slim. No need to accommodate an enormous bum or worry that your cleavage makes you look like you ought to be hanging off the prow of a ship.

On the other hand, many larger girls are happy to gird themselves in shapewear to the point of hardly being able to breath in order to "show off their curves."

Also, I found out that I do care about having a really pretty dress:

I'll probably have a plain waistline or maybe something more subtle than the big flower, but this was so beautiful on. The sample was a size 2--which seemed strange, since none of the girls I saw there could have fit into it--and it fit perfectly. They offered me a great discount for the sample, too. I'm just trying to talk them into including the hemming, and then I'll be ready to pull the trigger.

I know @Vanity is getting married soon. Anyone else out there? Or just anyone who loves talking about wedding dresses?

@Drew I really like that dress, specially the v-neck :)
I'm 17 so not going to get married soon  I am not even sure I ever want to get married but I love to think about what my wedding dress would look like :)
Personally I love those from Elie Saab. Like these

I would want a simple white flowing dress which will accentuate a very tiny waist. In case of civil wedding, I already have a white pant suit and thinking of wearing a sequined tank top underneath if ever I decide to go to Vegas!

Anja Rubik's custom made Pucci dress by Peter Dundas is king of all wedding dresses. It's just astonshingly prefect.

I'm not actually a fan of the short front of Anja's dress. I love the back though. This is my current dream dress: View attachment 2669 it's just stunning. But I think you'd need to be that skinny to pull it off. This is probably more suited to my shape: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1358783001.569217.jpg and for an alternative style I really like this: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1358783114.503373.jpg It's kind of classy yet fun!

@Gogo I really like the first one and the one with the criss-crossed bodice. Such pretty details!

One thing I learned trying everything on is that even if you're just an average size it's hard to look bad in anything. The dresses are just too pretty. The hardest part was trying to decide what I really liked the most. I thought the first thing I tried on couldn't possibly be beat but it ended up being one of my least favorite. It's definitely worthwhile to try on lots so you get used to the prettiness and can be a little more discriminating.

If I ever get married, I'd like something like this (the one on the right) :

Its very romantic and yet simple in my eyes.

Also, the dress Miley wore at the Oscars (if she'd only stand up straight she would have been fine in it!):

Its not very wedding gown-like but I absolutely love it!

If not, something very simple with long sleeves ALA COURTENEY COX:

Granted, you have to be SUPER skinny for that to look so beautiful, but I bet it's worth it. It's a shame I could never find more pictures of her dress, I love it.

I worked in a bridal store for ten years, so I love wedding dresses! While not all are something I would wear, it's always fun to see what people pick. For me, I can't pick just one type of dress, since it's so hard to pick without knowing the type of venue/time of year/level of formality. I have tons of dream weddings, haha. If I had to pick just one dress, it'd be something very slim fitting with only a small sweep of a train. White, not ivory. All over lace, with a bateau neckline. Long sleeves if it's winter. A deep vee in the back, and buttons all the way down.

No, I've not thought about this at all!

I really like the sound if that job! Totally agree the dresses depend on the type of wedding etc. But I'm not engaged and I don't want to be a crazy wedding obsessed lady so I can't let myself think about it too much! ;)

Ok girls, I need your expert opinions- I have been looking at dresses and found this one and I simply must know what you all think! This is really the dress I'm dying to be skinny for...

I've got a larger frame so I've always had prominent collarbones (I'm around 135 now). But that dress evokes a delicateness that I love and hope to have soon.

I really loved Portia de Rossis wedding dress. It was Zac Posen

I would go for a total white, I think her dress was a little bit pink-ish?

I love st pucchi gowns, all of them. In general I love gowns that have a lot going on and are especially unique or different. I tried on so many gowns and was in love the second I put this on.
Of course this also works with my venue and that is important to keep in mind.
