Girl Model: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1806911/

This documentary film was shown on BBC 4 (I think) last week in the UK, wondering if anyone else saw it?

Very interesting/depressing, it follows a Siberian girl who is scouted and taken to Japan, having been promised at least two assignments and a sum of money. (which doesn't materialize). She's only 13 and it's sad to see how neglected she was upon arriving.

Yeah I watched it too on BBC4, I thought that the scout (Ashley?) was odd and seemed to care so little for the girls despite being a former model herself. Even more interestingly, the model Nadya Vall released this video recently talking about her experiences. I am not sure which side of the story I believe.

Thanks for that! There's no doubt that film makers edit documentaries to generate the most drama possible, but I don't believe Nadya Vall's response on Youtube, she's clearly (to me at least) just reading a response from the Noah Model's agency...

The other girl in Japan (I forget her name) wasn't being paid either, and also had arrived completely alone.

I agree about Ashley being odd, I think she was very unhappy inside.

Watched it on Youtube the other day ... That Ashley woman seems like one disturbed individual :run: Obsessive foot fetish? Plastic babies? Dissecting plastic babies ? Even the way she speaks, everything about her seems so odd, like she's devoid.. She honestly made me uneasy haha.

Same. And the agent in Russia was so creepy, saying that he takes girls to the morgue to show them dead bodies to make them behave, and if they don't improve, he takes them to an autopsy... and then he started to talk about how he likes 13 yr old girls because they don't "spread their legs" for men :wtf: So many weird things in this documentary, I wish they actually explained everything more; like how the debt for agencies work and if she actually got paid the 8000 dollars they promised her at the beginning. There was a statement made recently by Nadya Vall (the model) saying how the filmmakers actually cut out a lot of events in the film and made everything look very bad, while in fact it was all fine, and how angry she is at them for "humiliating her" and her family and the agency, and saying that the whole film is extremely manipulated and shouldn't be believed. She also said that one of the filmmakers actually tried to force her to have sex, threatened her with making her go back to Russia and that he's so obsessed with her that he still keeps calling. Anyway, Nadya is so pretty, she looks a bit like a skinny, young mix of Lily Cole and Gemma. She's also still working as a model, in Japan, China and Taiwan.

I watched this movie yesterday (thanks to SG forum), and it really put things in another perspective, for me. I never thought of the fashion world to be so cruel, I mean, I knew that it isn't all butterflies, but I didn't know you could actually owe the agency just because they didn't find you a job..
I feel kind of sorry for these girls, because they're so young and fresh, and just wanted to escape from the Siberia (who wouldn't?!)..
