Leggings as pants/trousers, 'classy' or 'trashy'

Unspeakably tacky. No exceptions. Not "unless at the supermarket.. unless at the gym..." Tacky full stop. Elegance is consistency 24/7. Cutting off the leg like that can never be elegant.

I wouldn't say they are the classiest thing to wear out and about, but I honestly don't see the difference between wearing my black leggings to Safeway or a pair of yoga pants instead. I love me some lounge wear, and I have to dress to the nines during the day so when I'm out doing mundane things I throw on some leggings and a t-shirt and don't really give a crap :nervous:

The other day at school, I saw a mother picking up her 6-year-old in skin tight neon leggings on her thunder thighs. Come awn! Not only does it look trashy on EVERYONE, but YOU Ms... You are a freakin' MOM!!!:facepalm::facepalm:
How is your daughter going to be when she grows up if you're setting that example???

Well said! :highfive:
I forgot about the neon coloured ones.....frightening! Why can't people wear actual pants/trousers when out and about anymore? Are a pair of broken in old jeans really that uncomfortable? :nervous:

I think that if you are going to wear leggings as pants, you should do it with a tunic or shirt that hits mid thigh. Otherwise they definitely look trashy.
This. To be honest, though, I only wear them as trousers at the gym.

Hate HATE leggings. I only ever dare to wear them at the gym and even then it's with a vest top that covers my bum. They're not the most flattering of gym gear but they're the comfiest for spinning, circuits etc.

I hate this look and I swear its all I see everywhere at the moment on girls of all shapes and sizes, they might as well walk about with a bare arse as you see that much through them. The worst is when its worn with a crop top with a muffin top creeping over :/

i think the worst is that the bigger girls actually think that they are pretty flattering and make them look skinnier :seeya:

Hmm they are a lot comfier than jeans, so I can see why fatties wear them, but it's like a universal fact that noone wants to see your spotty thong and bare dimply ass/thighs through them, so I don't see how or why people think wearing them without their butt covered is OK.
I wear black AA shiny leggings, which are totally thick enough and kind of look like the disco pants, and even then I still always make sure I wear a big shirt that covers my ass. I mainly wear them cause they're comfy and easy to move around in. I have to wear jeans to work, and even though they're super stretchy I just find them so uncomfortable and restrictive so I avoid wearing them like the plague on days off. But then as already pointed out, I do have to be careful that I don't wear them all the time or I'll be a little less harsh on myself when I'm packing on the pounds :nervous:

I personally love leggings, but I always wear a shirt that covers my crotch and bum area.

I just feel more comfortable in leggings (especially when I'm at school all day), over jeans
during the colder months.

I like them under long shirts, dress shirts or dresses:

This is wrong in every way :run:

I love wearing them as pants. But I do wear a long shirts over so my butt is covered.

In my mind: you are trashy beyond trash is you wear thin leggings without something long enough to cover your ass.

Not even skinny people can pull off that look, but 99% of those who wear it anyway are about 20 pounds overweight (even above average standards) and... just. Nonono.

lol, you got that right. Fat girls are usually the ones that harass leggings miserably. I think it is because it gives the impression of them being able to wear "skinny jeans" without really wearing them because if they did, they'd be impaired to walk without ripping the jeans apart; therefore, leggings are a safe alternative.

Covering their bum is NOT even enough. Leggings are best worn with a tunic/long shirt that borders lower thigh.

I work out in them; the classes I take involve a lot of crazy movements, and gym shorts would not cut it for a variety of reasons.

I just ordered a pair of faux leather leggings and personally won't wear them w/o something that covers the butt, but I think super skinny could totally get away w/ it. I think they look pretty bad ass.

I feel like at that point, you should just go for some skinny jeans or something. Same effect without everyone seeing every crevice of your buttcrack. I know you're supposed to wear a tunic to cover your butt, but still, people might see it when you bend over. Imo, leggings are best with dresses or anything longer than your thighs. :)
