Starving Tip of The Day!
Lower the temperature in your house by 10 degrees to burn more calories, or take an icy cold shower. Just as with drinking ice water, it will cause your body to burn calories while warming you back up.

that’s a really stupid idea.. a person can go into a state of hypothermia and die like that.. no joke, I ran a marathon in freezing weather and my body temp. went down to 86 degrees.. I didn’t even have energy to shiver because your body shuts down to conserve energy to keep you alive.. not to mention that my blood sugar was really low because I didn’t eat anything other than a couple swallows of Cliff bar gel during the race; only when the medical professionals got my temp above 92 did I start shivering again. If my temp had gotten any lower I would’ve died.
You would be the first person to freeze to death in your own house
Honestly, 10 degrees colder will not cause arctic cold in your house. And you can´t compare marathon running in freezing weather with living in a house with a slightly lower room temperature.
PS: You messed up degree with fahrenheit.
@ Anya – I agree with Fili. You aren’t going to die or have any health issues from taking a 5-10 minute shower that is 10 degrees colder.
Glad you’re okay, Anya.
Starvation is dangerous, even more so than hypothermia.
@asdf – then why do animals (including humans) on calorie-restricted diets live the longest?
Who runs a marathon in freezing weather anyway?…That is the really stupid idea.
Caloric restriction only extends lifespan if proper nutrition is maintained. Studies done on humans only reduced calorie intake by about 25%. Participants were filling their vitamin and mineral requirements. Actually starving yourself to the point of malnourishment will do way more harm than good….people do your homework!
I completely agree with Andy. When health experts talk about calorie-restricted diets, they are usually referring to consuming about 1200-1500 calories per day. And keep in mind that on average, the people partcipating in the studies were probably a bit overweight to begin with (especially if the studies were done in the US). Calorie restriction is not the same thing as starvation.

“Even a moderately chilly air temperature of 60 degrees is low enough to trigger hypothermia if you aren’t properly clothed” … not to mention when someone is starving him/herself they won’t be able to produce heat as efficiently.
But maybe you’re right and I’m wrong, so go ahead and turn down your room temperature and enjoy the misery!
LOL. It may be true and might happen to 1 out of every 5 million people, but that is in extreme cases and most likely to happen with an elderly person.
You aren’t going to get hypothermia from standing in a shower that is 100 degrees instead of 120 degrees for 10 minutes.
Since you seem to be an expert on this, why don’t thousands of homeless people die from living in cold/chilly temperatures? LOL
ok “Skinny Gurl”, stop saying LOL. There is nothing remotely funny about this website. It’s sick and I see no cause to “lol” at any of it.
Please get some help.
Millie please go somewhere else… it’s obvious you don’t like what I have to say. LOL LOL LOL – HAHA!
It’s not just a skinny tip, I have heard a lot of people doing it to save money. Are they dying from the loss of that miniscule ten degrees? No. Quit the whining.
millie, this site is obviously not for you. Why are you here?
Have a cry Millie. Skinny Girl I applaud you for letting the wannabes post on your site. I’d just block them!
A cold shower isn’t long enough to make you go into hypothermia, (unless you take 4h, but honestly… leave some water for the fishes!) and during a part of the winter i couldn’t turn on the heat in my apt because of boxes (i had just moved in) standing right in front of the the heaters, (it’s a fire hazard). Did it for 3 months and i’m still alive (and i live in Canada, so i’m talking about a real winter here (-30 Celsius). And besides, cold water is very good to keep your skin firm. So it’s a good bonus! And Northen Europeans, inuits, and indigenous fire Tierra Del Fuego all go bath in freezing cold water (Tierra del fuego is close to Antartica, so very freezing…) and survive. So I don’t see the big deal!
I tried to take a cold shower and it was so painful but so worth it. I heard it burns soooooooo many calories. or take a cold shower and take of your towel when you’re done drying off, then sit for like ten minutes on your bed or somethng with out clothes and no heat. it’ll burn even more. Anya can wear clothes if she wants and millie can judge you for doing while she sits on her thumb and rotates! I think this starvation tip is useful! thank you!
If anyone wants more info on the benefits of cold showers, I found this article. x
