Here is the lovely Olga Sherer in the Nordstrom October 2010 Catalog. I was really surprised to see Olga in the Nordstrom catalog, it just doesn’t seem like her type of work. Yes, she looks lovely doing it, however I prefer to see her doing high fashion editorials or on the runway.

Olga just looks so ordinary here, not the distinct and fierce girl I’m used to seeing on the runway. Sorry for the rant – hehe. What do you think about Olga’s work for the Nordstrom catalog?
On another note, I’m a big fan of the boots she is wearing in the featured picture : )

Go vegan, do yoga, take long walks, and drink TONS of water. Try to stay away from caffeine. Don’t drink sodas, even diet sodas. The carbonation can make you bloat, and often times the fake sweeteners in them trick our bodies into craving more sugar. Don’t let people tell you fruit is too carby. That’s bull shit. It’s fruit. Eat it. Have fruit by itself for breakfast or as a snack. Drink tea after every meal. Just be healthy, and you’ll lose weight. Seriously. And it doesn’t wreck your metabolism. You are so tall and slim already, I’m sure you look beautiful. Please be careful and set a healthier weight loss goal.

sorry not trying to be rude but I find it annoying when people say “I’ve tried everything and nothing works” no, you’ve tried and then given up. Any diet will work it you stick to it.
But as HB says, its common sense; reduce calories, increase exercise, drink water etc.
And be honest with yourself. It took me years to lose weight but thats because I knew I was giving up/not trying hard enough, not blaming it on the diet or plan – if you’re not honest with yourself you will never be able to change your behaviour and lose weight.

The fact that SHE (totally skinny) does not look slender in that pants suit means I will not even consider it! Other than that, she looks lovely.
I’ve a skinny gurl tip for you: Tomato sauce. Make a big pot at home, so that you can control what’s in it, or read labels carefully so that they contain only the minimum of ingredients. I usually try make a gallon each time, or more when tomatos are cheap, and freeze in small boxes with enough for a day or two.
It’s only 103 calories a cup and you can add lean, ground turkey to make a bolognese; a sliced up, boiled carrot for a chunky tomato soup; spice it differently with thyme, garlic, basil, chili, and so on, and you’ll vary it a lot with little effort; with a few pieces of ravioli and just a tablespoon of shredded cheeze, you’ve a delicious supper; warm or cold in a termos it makes a great bring-along-lunch; or you can make moussaka or diet lasagna; google “low calorie tomato recipes” and be inspired!
It’s a stock-product, easy, cheap and low on calories.

Actually, most of a model’s work is for catolog. Whether it’s victoria’s secret, nordstrom, or even macy’s, it’s a way to earn money, and lots of it. Models wouldnt have enough money if they only did high fashion jobs. So, YES, Olga Sherer probably did this NOT as a favor, and of her own accord. Your whole “holier-than-thou” attitude is annoying me.

I’ve read somewhere as well that Chanel Iman actually does eat a very normal diet, obviously more healthy, but not as restrictive as people like to believe. She was doing an interview when the interviewer said she chowed down A MASSIVE cheese burger with drink! Yup.
Because a lot of people struggle with weight, they find it so hard to believe that there are indeed people who can live on chocolate and caje 24/7 and not add a thing. There’s this thin girl where I work who scoffs biscuits all the time. She lunches at KFC most of the time cos she hates to cook. And pple keep asking her how she does it. Thing is, she has no muscle mass at all, just straight and thin like she’s about to snap in two.
At first I used to get so annoyed just watching her eat because I envied her so much, now I admire her for not being as neurotic about food as most people are. She may not be eating her fruits & veggies or drinking her 2 litres of water a day or getting one hour of exercise a day, but she has her sanity, which is something that a lot of dieters lost along time ago.
Yes, loss of sanity… I know mine flies out the window every so often when confronted with an un-cooperative scale or (for ex right now) bags of halloween candy everywhere… However living off KFC makes me worry for her arteries and cholesterol!

That is sooo true! I used to eat lots of fruits (for almost every meal) and then I read about carbs and everything and stopped doing that. I thought that will make me fat, but I was the skinniest in my life then. So try it – fruits for breakfast, at 11 AM, for lunch, at 4 PM and an apple for dinner.

@Mew its so true, its different for everybody. There’s no way I could eat 2000 cals and maintain my weight. But I don’t ever eat less than 1000

I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me.
I have been running a bit everyday, and whilst this is working wonders for my midsection and overall weight it is making my legs bulk up which I definatly don’t want!
My calves are becoming gross!
Does anyone have any suggestions for other workouts or how to stop this!
I am reluctant to stop running because on the rest of my body it is working so well, my stomach is flatter and overall I am much more toned then I was… but my legs!

Try ballet workouts, there are tons of videos on youtube, they’re supposed to make your legs look lean… I have the same problem, and I’m trying this, but I can’t tell you if it works, I’ve just started… Hope it works for you!

I think 105-108 lbs (47-49 kg) would be a really good weight for your height. but it also depends on how old you are, because teens can weigh less and still be healthy while its harder for people 18+ to still be healthy at low weights. So whatever you do, make sure you loose weight the healthy way!! (:

Hi! I’ve been following this site for a few months, and I find it so inspiring! Just love the that you’re all about dieting the healthy way:) I’m struggeling a little with my weight loss though – I startet dieting two years ago( when I was 18, and didn’t know much about it.. I cut down to 700 kcals a day, and then ate less and less until I wasn’t eating more than 300 kcals. I lost a lot of weight the first 6 months, but then it stopped and I didn’t know why. I tried to increase my calorie intake a little, but just startet to gain weight agian.. and i havn’t been able to get the weight of since then:(
Now I’m eating about 600-700 kcals (not doing any exersice) but don’t loose weight! actually I’ve gained:(
What am I doing wrong?
Do you think it would help to increase the intake?
I’m afraid I’m eating too little, but I’m also worried that I have to, because I have probably slowed down my metabolism due to too little kcals the last few years:(

I would say that your metabolism has probably slowed down. The best way to deal with this is to kick up your calories to about 1000, as well as doing some exercise in the morning which will get your metabolism going. After a few days of eating at 1000/1200, switch it back down to 500. Then the next day eat 600, then 700, then 800 adding on 100 calories every day until you get back up to 1000. Keep repeating this cycle.
Eating this way keeps your metabolism guessing and you won’t experience that “slump” which seems to be what you are describing.
Also, if you are worried about weight gain when you increase calories, try cutting back on carbs like bread & potato and even fruit. Try to get most of your calories from protein and vegetables. I think if you do this you will find you can still lose weight but eat a bit more. (- doesn’t work for everyone but worked wonders for me when my weight loss stalled)
Also, it is very important for us skinny girls who are on low calorie diets to exercise. Just 30-60 minutes a day of cardio is enough. (but feel free to do more!!
the reason for this is that exercising speeds up your metabolism and keeps it going strong during the day.

thats the thing, as I described earlier, I lost about 15 pounds the first months. But then it stopped, and I tryed to increase a little but gained right away. I just dont’t understand why, because I never go over a 1000 kcals(exept when I’m going out..) and up until three months ago I exercised at least three times a week.
But all the weight I lost has come back, and I cant seem to get it off.
In a normal day I’ll eat:
B: 2 wholegrain rye crisp breads and a low fat, no sugar youghurt and a cup of tea.
L: 2 crisp breads again and an apple and water.
D: 150 g chicken filet with steamed carrot and brokkoli.

The reason you gained after upping your calorie intake is because, as a result of not eating properly before, you put your body in starvation mode, prompting it to want to hold on to any additional calories it can. 1000 calories per day is simply not enough, especially since you claim to be active by exercising. Generally speaking, 1200 is the minimum recommended calorie intake of a grown woman (teens require more). You should eat even more than that on days that you exercise because it sounds like you aren’t fueling your body properly. Additionally, depending on how long you’ve been crash dieting, you’ve probably messed up with your metabolism. It’ll take a while to adjust, so initially, losing weight the proper way will be slow (but far more effective for long-term weight loss). And that’s truth.

maybe what’s happening is that your body is just not used to this low cal intake, so that every time you eat, your body holds on to the food thinking its starving. maybe what you should do is find a good diuretic, like activia yogurt, to flush out your system and keep everything movin! haha. hope that helps you (:
What does not drinking water do to weight loss?
sabotages weight loss because most of the time, thirst is mistaken for hunger and you’ll end up eating more at your next meal without realizing it. most people snack/binge when they’re thirsty too.
water will never be retained in your body (unless you have a medical condition) because your kidney produces anti-diuretic hormone according to the volume status of your body.
not to mention being dehydrated is just about the most dangerous thing you can do to your body.

No way – I wasn’t considering dehydrating myself for weight loss. That’s kinda stupid. People always say, “drink a lot of water for weight loss” and stuff. So yeah, just wondering about the main reasons behind that (:

as well, when you get dehydrated (as was mentioned above i think) it is often mistaken for hunger, or can make you feel more fatigued – which in turn lowers your ability to resist any cravings as well as making you crave more sugar or fast energy foods. All of which result in consuming more calories. As well i should imagine (just logically extending from this) that if you are feeling crappy due to not being well hydrated, one may not feel like getting off the couch and hitting the treadmill etc.

sorry if I sounded bossy I just got a bit worried there for a second because I have heard of silly girls restricting water just so they can see a lower number on the scales.
if you remember from biology in high school when you learn about ATP and expending energy, you need water to use energy. So to actually use/burn calories water is involved in the process. I don’t remember the exact chemical equation
And as mew says quite rightly it is used to “flush” toxins and waste from your body – your kidneys do this and they need a LOT of water to function properly. Whenever you feel thirsty it is your kidneys telling you they need more water to get rid of toxins.

I like models to be really skinny or “stick-thin” as you say, because they just look like these amazingly waifish, elegant, out of this world beings and I love to look at them.
But for “normal” everyday people and actresses I think women usually look better as you say, with some tone and muscle, plus its healthier.
I definately second that. When I see a really thin model like person in real life, I do a double take, but switch on fashion tv and I see Vlada looking so pale and thin and I think “aah, lovely Vlada”. Funny.
I’ve never seen a model in real life, but am very curious as to how they really do look. I’d love to see one of the serious ones for real though, like Poly or Vlada, or Chanel Iman, now thats thin.
I’m lucky because there’s a model in my art class and she provides really good real-life thinspo for me. she is SO SKINNY. not bad-skinny though; gorgeous skinny. I could probably fit my hand width-wise in the gap between her legs. she wore a skirt once, and it looked like if you kicked her leg it’d snap in half haha. the only down-side is she acts really stuck-up, like she knows how beautiful she is and you’re not worhy of her attention. I hope the famous models we all love aren’t like that :/
I was in Bondi earlier this year and as I was walking across a lane I noticed a girl who looked familiar, I realised it was Abbey Lee!
She smiled and said hello to me and my grandmother on her way past.
She was GORGEOUS and made me feel so inferior standing next to her lolz, but she was very nice….and had on a fabulous jacket!
So at least some of them are nice!
i’m half-Asian and as you know, Asians are generally skinnier (based on genetics). around me, most people are skinny and quite a number are stick-thin. like olga, vlada kind of skinny. (they can’t be models because they lack the height or face or certainly not everyone wants to model

to give you guys a rough gauge, in my lecture hall at university, a quarter of the girls would be as skinny as me (- whether they worked as hard as me to get here, i wouldn’t know), a quarter would be even skinnier (i.e. roughly bmi 16?).
anddd… maybe that’s why i prefer models with tone.
most of these girls around me are just stick-thin.
I agree with you; in real life and for myself too i like the thin look with some muscle tone. Thin and fit. But these emaciated (i do not mean this in an offensive way, i just want to be clear with the difference between thin and model look) models have something remarkable about them. They photograph so well and look amazing on the catwalk. I guess that is why this is the model look and not another one. I restricted hard the last week and moved around a lot and I really looked skinnier (Idk how much i lost I drowned my scale when I actidentally dropped water on it D:) and I felt so good. t was so easy too. I just convinced myself that if I want to be skinny I have to do this, and it was okay. I felt awesome. but then I got into a binge again, and since then I CANT STOP! I’m so so so depressed and angry at myself that I start crying whenever someone solds me or I get yelled at at work or class. I’m a wreck. Somebody played coldplay and I started cryong in public. ):

Its okay Mara, it’ll get better. I guess the lesson you need to learn is to take it one day at a time, over-restricting can only result in a binge, cos you do so much in such a short space of time. It’s like trying to run 5 miles in 2 seconds, you use so much breathe and energy and then end up using 5 days to recover. Whereas if you ran the 5 miles in 1hour, you’d use less energy and less recovery time.
Your body is mainly claiming back what you forced out of it. Try filling up on apples, thats what I do when I feel the binge coming. Apples are sweet and are almost 0% fat, so you know its safe. And because of the high fiber, it’ll pass right out
Dont try to compensate for bingeing, just dust it off and carry on, remember to take it one day at a time. Be content with even losing 1lb a week. Its so easy to maintain and be consistent when you do it slowly and easily. Whenever you feel yourself get impatient, remember this;
1lb a week = 52lbs a year.
Most dieters find themselves back and forth yesr in year out and end up having to learn the hard way. Dont look at what celebs, do they’re lives are way easier than ours. Just take it one day at a time. Its the only reason why the turtle always wins the race.

I am not as far along in my weight loss journey as some of the girls on here, but since starting to read this site and actually focus on being healthier I’ve lost 15lbs. BUT it was not all smooth sailing: I lost 15, then GAINED back 7-9 lbs because of a very stressful month in my personal life…
HOWEVER I persevered and went back to eating more modest amounts and exercising a few times a week and the weight is off again! – random moral of my story: no need to freak out if the weight comes off slowly or even if you gain for a bit, just stay positive and be happy and you will find that life can be great even while you are in the midst of figuring out the best way to feed your body

Thanks everybody for continuing to write. Besides apples, celery works really well. You can get a bag of it at Costco which makes it easier. I hate cleaning celery and that’s the problem. But I should get some again…. I like to have veg soup around too. Thing is I am always hungry. If I get busy I can forget about food. But old habits… Hard to change but SO worth it.

I just noticed something kind of cool so I thought I’d share. You know how chocolate shakes are sometimes topped with whipped cream and a cherry? Well, I thought about that for a while, and now whenever I crave chocolate my mind immediately jumps to cherries and I crave them instead. It’s like chocolate = cherries in my mind now. lol.

I’m a model too (5’9″ – 98 lbs) and what I do is pretty much, I starve for three days straight, then the third or forth day only I have a Vegie Delight six-inch Sub. NO MAYO; just lettuce, tomato, s&p, and olives OR tiny bit of cheese.
If I get overly-hungry, I have only a low-cal iced tea (Nevada or Nestea are the best I think) for the entire day.
plus water, of course.
I have fruit one a week, even if it clashes with that plan above. I have cup of watermelon, lemon, strawberries or half an apple. Good for detoxing too!
ALSO, If I get I’m-about-to-cry-please-let-me-eat style of hunger, I give myself a full pro makeover, take amazing pictures and be my own little thinspo. That keeps me from the fridge!

Hey guys, I need some help! I used to be so skinny when I got married. But then since I got married, I just… let go
I gained about 4-5 lbs a year, and now I’m 12 lbs over my weight goals (and that’s a lot on my very small, short frame) My hubby doesn’t say anything. He just made one very small comment once a long time ago but he’s too nice about it. I want to have that motivation again, but now I just eat and eat and I don’t exercise. I need some tough love…please! My husband has very little fat on his body (he’s very lean) and right now – I weigh more than him
Help!! And some of my clothes are fitting really tight, or not fitting at all.
start by setting some goals and getting started. get your husband involved – i’m sure he would be more than willing to help you! go for a brisk walk every day if you’re not into running yet, or go for a nice swim. set aside time to exercise each day, and start watching your diet and discovering the wonders of clean eating. i’m sure you’ll get there!!
Here’s what I think. Everyone is different. The worst mistake anyone can make is to diet in a hurry, that is a recipe for an ongoing binge. My advise to anyone finding it tough is this; Don’t be afraid to go slow, or to pace for a while. Whatever you desire may not happen fast but you have to be dilligent and be faithful. Work your hunger around your weaknesses.
If you find the weeknds hard to discipline, then restrict during the week and relax (NOT BINGE)at the weekends. Eat normal, it gives you the impression ur not missing out on anything. Take yourself and friends out to dinner once a week, anywhere, and don’t hold the dressing, cos u know you’ll be holding it 5 other days of the week.
Dieting is not punishment, so dont punish yourselves with rigid diets okay, the slower the better.
love the tip: it WILL happen in the end even if you go slow. however try to keep at least 300kcal below what you’d take in for your weight maintenance because if you take in say, only 100kcal less, your body naturally moves less to make up for that slightly lower calorie intake. (in actual fact, if you take in 500-1000kcal less, your body also slows down to make up for it, but it can’t slow down enough, hence the weight loss.)
that’s why exercise is highly recommended with dieting
but in any case, don’t be afraid to have a few days of weight maintenance calories. it’ll give your body a break anyway. even if it takes half a year, at least it does happen and is better than a binge!
I just need to rant to people who get me! i’ve been exercising and eating healthy and i’ve cut my calories and it worked, i lost 5 kilos, joy! but the past 6 weeks.. ugh, i added more exercise and less calories to try help get back to losing but its not budging! annoying much.
(which i know is a lot but i’m 180cm so its not too bad :/) and cannot break it!!

New tip, guys! Restricting leads to binging so ALWAYS sleep early and if you really have to eat, always allow yourself salads for snacks. Been snacking all I want with salads between my meals and my max kcal per day is 600! (usually my intake for 3meals adds up to about 500. 3-4 cups of veg salad (really a lot!) taken over several sittings only add 100kcal to my diet!
Been feeling really full too. Lost 5kg and am lookin to lose 5more for my goal weight:)

I still come to the site because it currently an opne forrum for us to chat anywhere else we would be unhealthy freaks but had to state the slow diet advice was great Im having a couple slip ups but since I’m easing in it’s ok and all in all I feel like Im doing better!
One thing I think you guys make like is steamed broccoli with low fat or homemade spaggetti sauce it gives you feeling your eating pasta but without the quilt and it has less than 50 cal for 1/4 cup less than low fat dressing

Drink lots of water every day… Do cardio, at least 1 hour a day… Cut out all carbs and sugar… and don’t eat anything that will bloat you too much. Try to write down the calories in everything you put into your mouth no matter what!
You should look slimmer in 2 weeks if you work hard and stick to it.
This sounds like very good advice. It’s what I’ve done in the past and must repeat for results in 2 weeks! I’m grain free anyway but have been lagging with the sugar!
