Models Talking (Lying?) About What They Eat

Posted on July 29, 2010 by Skinny Gurl in Kasia Struss, Snejana Onopka, Thinspo, Vlada Roslyakova

Here is a video of models talking (lying?) about what they eat.  They interview Vlada Roslyakova with Kasia Struss for part of the segment.  Vlada laughs pretty hard when they ask her, I wonder what she is saying.  Snejana Onopka closes the video.

I have no idea what they are saying, can anyone translate for us?  I’m very curious as to what they are saying and if they are telling the truth.  I’d love it if one of them said something like “Eat, what are you talking about? I starve.” – “I only eat veggies and drink diet soda.” – “Fruits, veggies and water.”

In any case, at least we get to look at some lovely eye candy!

Update: Here is the English translation.  It isn’t word for word, but you’ll get the basic idea of what they are saying.  Thanks so much for translating Anya!!!!  XO ~ Skinny Gurl

Reporter says “Let’s see what they feed them here backstage.. sandwiches — interesting, how after eating such food do models stay thin?.. a piece of bread with butter and cheese” Then she talks about the “ideal figure” for models and says if someone thinks they get that way from some type of training or diet, they’re wrong.

“It’s not that models don’t watch what they eat”.. but backstage, they feed models sandwiches and sweets.

The model who looks like Chanel Iman (don’t know if it is, I can’t read russian only speak it) says they’re often in Milan so they eat a lot of pizza and ice cream.

The reporter says “What do they feed models backstage?” and Vlada says “Oh, you’ve seen? Haha.. Tea (chai).. It’s good if they have tea, usually they have coffee.. some croissants.. usually also sandwiches that you can’t — especially after already eating in New York — eat in Milan, Paris, already..” (voice trails off, so I don’t know what she was going to say)

Then the next model (with the green scarf) says “It’s hard to find time to eat a normal meal.. backstage they usually feed us sandwiches, chips, or something like that.. and for dinner I try to eat soup or something else but definitely healthy.”

Then Chanel Iman (or whoever) says “I always try to bring my own food rather than eating backstage, but there are too many rules about food here.”

Then the reporter says “But isn’t this type of food (backstage food) bad for the figure?” and the model in the striped shirt says “No.” The reporter says “And you haven’t seen any changes in your figure?” and the model says “No, you run around all day, and you need the energy, so you’ll eat everything they give you”

Then Vlada says “But you know, in a way, for a month we survive through it/tough it out, but I try for breakfast to eat very well in the hotel.. jam, oatmeal, pancakes.. then at the end of the day, however it goes/ whatever..”

Then the model after her (sitting down, gray sweatshirt) says “You know, in principal, nothing.. your stomach works for the time being.”

Well, if you keep losing weight, you´ll stop having a period. Problem solved. And in case you´re wondering, i´m being sarcastic.

Girls, you will love me, haha.. I speak russian so I understand everything they said. I won’t translate every little thing cuz I don’t have time, but here’s how it goes:

Reporter says “Let’s see what they feed them here backstage.. sandwiches — interesting, how after eating such food do models stay thin?.. a piece of bread with butter and cheese” Then she talks about the “ideal figure” for models and says if someone thinks they get that way from some type of training or diet, they’re wrong.

actually Iman says “I always try to bring my own food rather than eating backstage, but there are too many hands touching the food here”

      • Abbey 2 August 2010 at 4:28 pm #

that doesn’t make sense…. if there are “too many hands touching the food here” then why doesn’t she bring her own food? I think the original translation was more accurate..

          Chanel said:

“I always try to bring my own food rather than eating backstage. Here too many people touch food.”

I translated almost everything, I got really interested in what they were saying, lol. Thanks skinny gurl! Please post (or send me) more videos like this.. or let me know where you found it.

Anya – I’ll email you tomorrow about the videos : ) I’m headed to bed for the night.

I think what Vlada said is pretty believable. I mean, I sometimes eat breakfast, then I have to go somewhere, then I work out about 3 hours, then maybe I go to the pool or have to go grocery shopping or somewhere else.. and by the time I get home it’s late and I don’t even want to eat anymore!.. but that’s only SOME days, if it were ALWAYS like that, I’d probably be as skinny as Vlada. It also takes discipline to work all the time and not just say “Screw it all.”

  6. Christina 29 July 2010 at 8:56 pm #

    jesus chanel iman is gorgeous

  7. Fili 29 July 2010 at 11:02 pm #

    Wow.
Thanks Anya! Without your translation I only understand “figure… coffee…food… ehm, no” (Well, that was also the message I expected – I was kind o surprised when they talked about sandwiches nd pancakes, lol)
    I actually like Vlada´s voice!

  8. Chloe 30 July 2010 at 3:40 am #

    thanks for the translation!

i believe they eat the sandwiches and pancakes. it’s true that when you’re on your feet all day, it’s really easy to stay skinny.

    • Shuvee 30 July 2010 at 11:12 am #

      That’s true!
I had a job one summer where I was on my feet all day and lost nearly ten pounds without any effort!

They probably don’t eat all that much anyway, so even if they are eating that stuff, odds are the calories are burnt off pretty quickly.

    • Skinny Gurl 30 July 2010 at 1:07 pm #

I’m a little skeptical. I believe they eat bites of things like sandwiches and pancakes, but not very much. How often have we seen pictures of high fashion models eating more than a bite or two of a pancake or a sandwich? I’ve never seen it. I only see them eating fruit, veggies, or drinking tea/coffee…sometimes the occasional bite of a breakfast pastry.

    Some additional translation:

    1. “The model who looks like Chanel Iman” – it is Chanel Iman.
    2. “Then the next model (with the green scarf)” – Hanne Gaby Odiele.
    3. “Then Chanel Iman (or whoever) says “I always try to bring my own food rather than eating backstage, but there are too many rules about food here.”” – Actually, she says that too many hands touch food here. So, it’s not about rules.
    4. “the model in the striped shirt” – Nimue Smit.
    5. “the model after her (sitting down, gray sweatshirt)” – Snejana Onopka

Also, right before “The reporter says “What do they feed models backstage?””:
Viktoriya Sasonkina says “So the model comes to the show and at first wonders where can we eat here? Where is food here? Then after eating goes make-up, hair etc.”

    • Skinny Gurl 30 July 2010 at 1:04 pm #

Thanks Mol! I really appreciate the additional translation : )

    • Anya 31 July 2010 at 12:27 am #

oops, lol, that’s what happens when I mix russian and english – I was thinking of the english “rules” rather than the russian “hands” (which both sound similar)

Everything else I think is right though.

      • mol 2 August 2010 at 7:22 am #

        yeah, I thought so XD
        thank you for translation~

  10. mol 30 July 2010 at 10:41 am #

Forgot to add, Vlada’s voice quite surprised me. It’s nice. :)

  11. Nannou 30 July 2010 at 3:02 pm #

whoa 0:26 want some bread with that butter?? XD eww

  12. cass 30 July 2010 at 6:12 pm #

I love that there was all that food but pretty much the only thing we actually saw them eat was apples LOL.
Great vid, thanks for the translation!

  13. Perf3ction 31 July 2010 at 7:58 pm #

    “I bring my own food.”

I trasnlate that into.. I’m telling you that I bring my own food.. then I’m gonna tell you that I eat it in my “trailer” but really what I mean is I don’t eat.. and I’m perfect.

  14. Lizzy 4 August 2010 at 11:00 pm #

I heard “No you run around all day and burn off lots of energy so you eat healthy” Not sure if that’s right or not though.

  15. Cecilia 8 August 2010 at 7:02 pm #

    That was Chanel Iman

  16. Giulia 4 September 2010 at 10:18 pm #

    Boy Snejana surely is honest.
