Actors who lost/gained weight for a role
I am a big fan of Christian Bale (looking forward to the new Batman movie), but it was hard to watch him in the movie "The Machinist". He's 6'2 and dropped 63 lbs to play a man whose health deteriorates after not sleeping for a year.
I read in an article that his diet only contained coffee, cigarettes and an apple a day. Here's a picture:  Do you know other examples (maybe not that extreme^^)?

I think Natalie Portman lost weight for Black Swan, but I'm not sure.
I wanted to add German actress Karoline Herfurth, who had to play an anorexic in "Vincent will Meer", but I found out she just WANTED to lose weight, but her Atkin's Diet made her gain instead.

Seth Rogen lost a fair amount of weight for his role in "The Green Hornet"...i think he looks a bit boring in general, but it was probably a very positive change for him and good for his health. The difference in his face is amazing.

Beyonce also lost a lot of weight for her role in dreamgirls, i think she made the master cleanse quite popular...

This is the other way around but i know that Vanessa Hudgens gained a lot of weight for a recent movie of hers.

Beyoncé, haha. 5kg?! That's nearly nothing at her high weight. And it was her who stated in an interview she felt horrible "to be so skinny" and wanted her old weight back!
