I own a horse, I ride most days if I have time. I have a jumping lesson with my coach twice a week and despite what non-equestrian people might think, it's INTENSE. Really, it burns quite a bit of calories in just about an hour. Also improves balance and posture and I have pretty muscular arms and legs and a butt of steel thanks to the hobby :D And in general, it's just a really lovely hobby. Expensive maybe, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.
Riding (actual riding, not just travelling in the saddle) really requires a lot of control over your body and constant awareness of what you're doing, so it's much more work than it seems. ... And in breeches, every lump and bump shows - good thinspo.

My friend (from horseback riding) is hardcore into riding. She tides for like 3+ hours per day, and recently started online high school so she could focus more on riding. And she is so so so slim. Not skinny-skinny, but toned. Not too muscle-y though. Basically she has a perfect body. She used to be kind of chubby, but now that she is riding so very much, she's lost like 15 lbs. of fat, keeping all her lean muscle. It's a brilliant workout if you do it enough.

Every time I have ridden a horse, my butt and legs feel extremely sore! So it must work something.
