The most important month in fashion and editorial!
And the covers are almost out!
Which ones you love, hate, adore, despise, etc, etc.
I was horribly disappointed with this one...
http://thatgrapejuice.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/lady-gaga-vogue-2012.jpg
Need I say anything? :puke:
Everything is wrong with this cover. I mean, it is the 120th year of Vogue and they put Gaga on the cover? I guess she's a fashion icon and has her fragrance and everything but couldn't they put someone relevant in the fashion industry on the cover? Say, a model??? And could the cover look more hideous??? I am disappointed. I guess it will sell more than if they had put, I don't know, Abbey Lee or Karlie, but still... It's the 120th anniversary, the biggest Vogue issue in history AND the most important issue of the year.
Also, this crap for NY magazine:

Why Kim Kardashian??? WHY???
And these are my favorites:
Constance Jablonski for Harper's Bazaar Australia

Bella Heathcote for Vogue Australia

Keira Knightley for Vogue UK

If it makes you feel any better, I totally did not catch that either
IMO, the most disappointing covers by far were from Vogue Paris

http://cdn.fashionista.com/uploads/2012/08/kate-moss-vogue-paris-september-2012-01.jpeg?9d7bd4

The casting was wayyyyy too predictable :nopity: I love Lara and Daria, but Emmanuelle Alt needs to stop using the same established models and start taking some risks! And secondly, the covers are so boring! I mean, if you're gonna use a plain background, why use a dull gray?!?! So depressing, just brings down the mood of the cover. These wouldn't be so terrible if they weren't from such a prestigious magazine  The models themselves look good, but these are nothing special for September covers :nopity:

Sorry for the double post, but this has got to be one of the top 5 best September covers this year ;)
Harper's Bazaar Spain ft. Guinevere van Seenus
http://cdn.thefashionspot.com/images/tfs2010/2012/August/Harpers-Bazaar-Spain-Sept-2012.jpg
Simple, but strong. The layout of the text is perfect, the white space brings the attention to Guinevere's outfit, and the religious symbolism (Guinevere = Jesus, Harper's Bazaar Spain = Bible) is clever :luv:

Sorry for the triple post (:nopity:), but WOW @ Karlie getting a 4th September cover!
http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m919lwWqkl1r70toco1_1280.jpg
And this isn't the main cover for Vogue Russia, but WOW @ Maryna's beauty cover! Way better than Natalia's cover imo! The only thing I dislike is the pout. If the mouth was more relaxed, the cover would be a 10 :luv:

Ew, Vogue US featured Kate Cowton on a spread about the most memorable people called "Stylish Faces" (designers, models, actors, etc, etc) shot by Norman Jean Roy.
http://instylewithstylebabe.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/img-11vogue1200912vowell45olivierrousteing_18394155468 9olivier-rousteing-joseph-altuzarra-and-anthony-vaccarello.jpg
Next to Olivier Rousteing, Joseph Altuzarra and Anthony Vaccarello? And Chanel Iman and Candice Swanepoel? Serious-leh???? Kate doesn't deserve it at all. How is she memorable? Because she put on a skimpy swimsuit that barely covered her boobs and acted like a slut on an SI cover and for a Terry video? Gosh, society these days
They also featured Nicolas Ghesquiere and KRISTEN STEWART. :puke: Don't tell me she's memorable too. Slender Man has more face expression than her!

Oh and this could have been tolerable, if they wouldn't have put Arizona Muse in it (although I'll admit, she looks decent here)

WTF Anna Wintour???
You can see the whole spread here (http://mode.newslicious.net/2012/08/stylish-faces-joan-smalls-liu-wen.html)

What did they do to Natalia's hair? That must be one of the most freaking awful covers this year. The hair clashes with EVERYTHING. I would have liked it (the color scheme is nice and it has an air of Old Hollywood sophistication) if the hair was brown or maximum a very dark blond. I didn't know Natalia could look bad, but I guess she can.
Gosh... the cover is so awful! :puke:

Hmm as I really love Vogue and I am somehow collecting them I was wondering if it was a good choice to invest in Vogue US and UK September issues :hmm:

You definitely should buy multiple copies of each! Since they are the biggest editions of all time for each magazine, plus being the 120th anniversary magazine for Vogue US, you'll be able to sell those for quite a pretty penny on eBay a few years from now ;)

Ikr? I've been thinking about the same thing. I mean even though I don't like Vogue US cover I don't really care it's the 120th anniversary edition!!! And then I really want to have the UK one because I really love the cover and it would be the first issue with Karlie being the covergirl

I'm doing that too! I absolutely hate the Vogue US cover, but I'm buying it anyway so when I am an old lady I can brag that I have "The 120th anniversary cover of Vogue from 2012", but I'm also thinking of buying another copy so I can sell it a decade or two later for some serious money ;)

I got Vogue UK and after giving it a good going over I have to say...is it just me, or are the women in the ads looking a bit 'larger' than usual?! Have they actually stopped using models under a certain BMI or photoshopped them larger? I used to leaf through Vogue in awe of how tiny and delicate the models looked, now I'm in awe of how thick their calves are. Maybe I'm just blinkered by my love of the skinny look, maybe I've become accustomed to seeing very thin models and now, although being the same size, they don't look skinny anymore? Who knows. There are a few pictures, all of them catwalk shots, where the models look how I envisage them to look but all of the adverts make me question my sanity!

Vogue UK has always been airbrushing models larger, or at least since Alexandra Shulman took over as EIC.

Thanks for clearing that up. It pisses me off, I don't get Vogue to look at average women in fantastic clothes, I want to see aspirational pictures with women I can admire wearing clothes I'll never be able to afford. I guess it's time to look for a US Vogue subscription.

How would one go about buying single issues of vogue other than their own country's issue?

I've been posting this to another thread once:
"[...] As from June, the international fashion magazine [Vogue] will renounce those same models. The morbid craze about skinniness shall be stopped in all 19 countries in which "Vogue" is published. Boney women's bodies on which femininity is indistinguishable without any curves, will then belong to the past in one of the world's most influential fashion magazines.
The magazine [...] knows about its leading role in the world of fashion.
"We carry a certain body image and are aware of our role model function" [...]
All 19 executive editors of Vogue international have concluded an agreement to promote a healthy body image in the future. Last Thursday, the managing editors announced a six-point-agreement, in which the departments commit to a row of sanctions. Specifically, there shall no future series be produced with girls with eating disorders. It shall be pointed out to casting/model agencies, too, that girls who are not merely thin but rather obviously sick, won't get chances of photo series anymore.
(I had to translate this, I hope it's comprehensible )

That's what i'm wondering about, too. :hmm:
I usually buy them at Borders or Barnes and Noble. They'll probably have some at big bookstores in your area, and if it's a long drive, you could call ahead and ask them what issues they have in stock. It's a lot easier to find international magazines in Europe.
Or you could try eBay, if you're okay with paying above market price.
