In the 2008 season of Holland's Next Top Model, Ananda Marchildon won. After earning some money with Elite, she was dismissed because she had gained weight since being signed and had neglected to lose weight when they repeatedly asked her to. She sued them because it was her prize in winning and wasn't able to complete her 3 year contract. She won her lawsuit and was given 65,000 euro to compensate.

I haven't heard of anything like this before. Obviously, models get dropped because of weight issues, but to then sue the management company because you didn't hold up your end of the bargain? I think its ridiculous. I doubt she will get much work after all this.

Does this happen occasionally? Do you think she deserved to win the lawsuit?

Here is an article about it:

She's an incompetent brat with no willpower and no brains. Good thing that Elite dropped her. Although I think the lawsuit was ridiculous, she didn't hold her end of the bargain by staying in shape. I don't know what her "prize" contract stated but altering your looks it's always a no-no in a modeling contract... :hmm:

Absolutely no chance of her ever getting work again. She ditched a 3 year contract (and potential for even more work after that) to eat a freaking pizza/to make a point?

"The model and agency parted ways in September and Ananda Marchildon is now a carpenter"

This is the caption on the photo in the article. She is now a carpenter.

She was awarded the rest of the $ because Elite terminated the contract early. She will never be able to model. No big loss. She wouldn't have survived.

Wow. That girl is really stupid. If I had fought and struggled so much to win that contract, I would have fought to keep it too. Not just give up when you've progressed so much.
All that fashion/model/skinny hate on the comments make my blood boil. Ignorant idiots.

Oh I see, makes sense. She never really had the commitment to model seriously anyways. A carpenter? that screams "I'm a fat butch and I like it, now where's my beer and chips?"

I think the only reason she sued them was to make other people and herself feel like she had been 'wronged'
I'm not sure if the clause for weight gain was mentioned in the contract, but her lawyer mustve found a loophole
Though I don't understand why these girls go out of their way to compete in these competitions if they don't really want to make the most of them
Fine, maybe carpentry makes her happy - then she should've gone for 'Holland's Star Carpenter', not 'Top Model' :puke:

The thing is she just couldn't lose the weight anymore so she thought she could make some extra money :( so she sued them:(

Too bad for her:(

She should write an advice book, like "career tips for dummies" or "modelling like a boss"...

Win a famous show.
Get the chance of your life to be a model.
Sign with one of the biggest modelling agencies.
Let yourself go and disrespect the chance you´ve been given
Sue your agency to make sure neither them nor anyone else in fashion business will ever want to work with you again.
Become a carpenter.

Well I think Elite had every right to drop her, and she deserved to be dropped, but it's important to point out what the court decided.

The court didn't say an agency can't require a girl to lose weight or maintain certain measurements (or they'd all be out of business.)

Rather, what the court said is that she won the $ prize at a certain set of measurements, and that the agency wronged in trying to impose additional requirements on the prize after she had won it.

Wait - she's a carpenter? How did I miss that? Well, you do need to be strong to be a carpenter.. maybe she found her calling.

Wtf? She didn't win 3 years with Elite, she won a CONTRACT with them that she had to sign! Or was their contract a special "top model" contract that gave her all sorts of special privileges?

Wow the company must have had really bad lawyers for her to win this one... you girls should have gone and presented our viewpoints to Elite!

Some people don't realise how lucky they are. The chance of a lifetime handed to you on a plate and you stick two fingers up at it! Boy would the runners-up be seriously pissed!

It was her fault for gaining weight, she has to realize that it is her job to stay a certain weight and comply to the job's rules.
